A Finished Masterpiece: Last Phase of Art of Animation Open

This morning, the 4th and final phase of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort opened at Walt Disney World® Resort!

The Little Mermaid wing consists of 864 standard hotel rooms themed after one of the most celebrated animated films of all time. Guests stay “under the sea” inside their rooms with decor inspired by the film. Outside in the courtyards and by the Flippin’ Fins pool, that theming continues with many of the movie’s characters.

‘Lion King’ Family Suites Open at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

This morning, the third phase of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort opened to the public.

Celebrating the journey of Simba through the Pride Lands of Africa, the courtyards contain landscaping and theming reflecting many favorite scenes from the Academy Award-winning animated film The Lion King. And inside the 320 themed family suites, guests can hang out with the wild residents of the Pride Lands while Timon and Pumbaa make a real splash in one of the suite’s two bathrooms. The second you walk through the door, it is hard to not adopt the duo’s “hakuna matata” philosophy!

With the opening of The Lion King wing, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort now has 1,120 family suites with two bathrooms, a kitchenette, and three separate sleeping areas that can sleep up to six guests. Other family suite theming options include Cars and Finding Nemo. The last phase of the Resort, the Little Mermaid wing, will offer standard rooms sleeping up to 4 guest. That wing will open Sep. 15.

Just in time for the summer vacation season to start, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort opened their second phase of its new family suites at Walt Disney World® Resort yesterday.

In the new Cars themed section which features 480 family suites, guests venture down a freshly paved road into Radiator Springs. Guests will find popular landmarks like Luigi’s Casa Della Tires, Tow Mater Towing, Cozy Cone Motel and the Wheel Well Motel. The Cozy Cone Pool and orange cone-shaped cabanas are present for guests to cool off from the Florida heat.

The high-octane theming doesn’t stop outside! Inside the family suites, orange cones are imprinted in the carpeting and adorning the light fixtures plus animation-inspired artwork is displayed. Pull-out beds extend from the living room sofa (disguised as the back seat of an old hot rod), the tool chest is actually a dresser and the bathroom design is inspired by a car wash!

One of our Magic Makers®, Danny Cox, was on location for the opening of Phase 2 and has provided us with this photo album.

Opening dates for the remaining two sections of the resort are:

  • The Lion King – Aug. 10
  • The Little Mermaid – Sep. 15

From linens and carpeting to fixtures and furniture, all the details of the new rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort tie to a storyline of one of four films. In the Finding Nemo suites, guests will find coral-shaped chairs and bubble ceiling lights in the dining area while rusty metallic tiles in the bathroom make guests feel as though they are in the submarine. Characters will also take center stage as the Cars, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid sections of the Resort open in phases later this year.

All 1,120 family suites at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort include two bathrooms, a kitchenette and three separate sleeping areas that can sleep up to six guests. The 864 standard The Little Mermaid rooms will sleep up to four when they open.

“As more and more families travel and make memories together, they also want to stay together, which has created demand for family suites” said Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations, US and France.

Big Blue World – Photo Tour of the Grounds at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Thursday’s opening of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort placed guests into the middle of the big blue world of Nemo and friends. The whimsical theme of the two Finding Nemo buildings and The Big Blue Pool area is spectacular!

Kids young and young-at-heart are making a splash over the Big Blue Pool, the largest resort swimming pool at Walt Disney World® Resort measuring 11,859 sq ft. You feel like you are swimming with Dory and Nemo as underwater speakers periodically pipe in music and messages from the film characters. The Big Blue Pool area also features a giant-sized Crush and Mr. Ray (whose wings span 27 feet).

Take a photo tour of the exterior of the Finding Nemo themed section and The Big Blue Pool at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.

If you haven’t already, take a peak at the Animation Hall area of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. Stop back later for a look inside the Finding Nemo Family Suites!
