Final Days of Snow White’s Scary Adventures® Attraction

Snow White's Scary AdventuresAfter 40 years of operation, Thursday, May 31st, will mark the final day of the Snow White’s Scary Adventures® Attraction at Magic Kingdom® Park. One of the fourteen remaining opening day attractions at Magic Kingdom® Park’s opening on October 1, 1971, the attraction will be removed to make way for the new Princess Fairytale Hall.

Princess Fairytale Hall is part of the New Fantasyland® Area expansion that is taking place right now at the Magic Kingdom® Park. This royal area will become the new home for guests to meet-and-greet their favorite Disney Princesses. Design of the building calls for a castle-like entrance of stone and stained glass windows,  a large gallery with high ceilings and portraits of Disney Princesses, and elegantly finished rooms for guests to meet the Princesses in.

Princess Fairytale Hall is set to debut in late 2013. In the meantime, guests will find the Princesses in various meet-and-greet locations spread throughout the Magic Kingdom® Park. Consult your Times Guide for exact locations and times during your visit.

Be Our Guest RestaurantAs the opening of the highly anticipated Be Our Guest Restaurant slowly draws closer, more and more details on this new dining location emerge. The restaurant will serve as an additional counter-service location during lunch, but will offer table-service for dinner and is scheduled to open to the public prior to the holidays in 2012.

New Fantasyland Brings Creative Costuming to Magic Kingdom® Park

We have shared several articles about the New Fantasyland expansion and the great amount of attention Imagineers are paying to the little details. With these new areas of the Magic Kingdom® Park comes the need for new cast member costuming.

Walt Disney Imagineering and Creative Entertainment have worked hand-in-hand to create new costumes for each area of New Fantasyland. These unique garments help tell a story of your surroundings and create a rich sense of community.

With last week’s opening of Storybook Circus, we saw costumes inspired by the “Big Top.” The bold colors of them evoke the spirit of the ringmaster or sideshow barker with tails and detailing provide a look of the 1930s.

This mural will serve as a backdrop making restaurant guests feel like they are part of the “Beauty and the Beast” movie.

“Soft Opening” of Storybook Circus at Magic Kingdom® Park

New DumboSome of Monday’s guests at Magic Kingdom® Park were among the first to experience parts of Storybook Circus! This “soft opening” brought one carousel of Dumbo the Flying Elephant®, a re-themed Barnstormer featuring the Great Goofini, and the Fantasyland Station of the Walt Disney World® Railroad to life and gave us a taste of what to expect for the rest of the expansion.

The Dumbo the Flying Elephant® attraction has received a new water feature at its base that sparkles and shines at night. When completed, Dumbo the Flying Elephant® will double its capacity with two carousels – the new one spinning clockwise while the old one will continue to fly counter-clockwise.

The Barnstormer, Starring The Great Goofini“The Barnstormer, Featuring  The Great Goofini”  is a family roller coaster taking you on the twists and turns of Goofy’s aerial  acrobatics stunt show for the big top!

When complete, the Storybook Circus area will also have a Casey Jr. splash area.

Through this “soft opening” stage, Storybook Circus will not hold regular park hours, but will be open intermittently. This area of Storybook Circus is expected to officially open to the public by the end of March.

New Fantasyland Update

Storybook CircusWalt Disney World® Resort has announced that the first portion of the new Storybook Circus area, which is inspired by Disney’s animated film “Dumbo,” will open by late March! This expansion is the largest in the history of the Magic Kingdom® Park.

New Updates for Fantasyland Expansion

A project is currently underway that will nearly double the size of Fantasyland®, the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom® history. Scheduled to open in phases beginning in late 2012, the new Fantasyland® will immerse guests in their favorite stories as never before. Among the highlights planned:

Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid
A major, all-new attraction during which guests will travel with Ariel and her friends through their exciting adventures above and below the waves – all against a musical backdrop of songs from the classic film.

The Castle of the Beast and Belle’s Village
The Beast’s castle stands majestically upon a hill just across an old stone bridge from Ariel’s new home. The Be Our Guest Restaurant will feature a lavish dining experience in the elegant ballroom, gallery, and mysterious West Wing of the castle. With seating for 550, this magnificent facility will offer counter service by day and full table service dining in the evening. Nearby in Belle’s Village, guests will find the rousing Gaston’s Tavern and Bonjour! Village Gifts.

Just outside the village is Belle’s cottage and Enchanted Tales with Belle. The adventure begins in Maurice’s workshop, where a magical mirror is the doorway to a captivating new kind of storytelling experience. Guests are transported to the Beast’s library to meet Belle and Lumiere, and share in a lively, interactive, re-telling of the “tale as old as time.”

But that’s just the beginning of what guests will discover when the multi-phase project is completed. Here’s more of what’s in store:

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Coaster
Hop on board a mine train that will take guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” The coaster will feature a first-of-its kind ride system with a train of ride vehicles that swing back and forth, responding to every twist and turn of the track. The journey will be accompanied by music from the classic Disney film and animated figures of Snow White and the Dwarfs. (Click photo to see the new coaster.)

Princess Fairytale Hall
Join Aurora, Cinderella and other Disney princesses, such as Tiana and Rapunzel, will greet guests in their new home, an elegant royal court on the site where Snow White’s Scary Adventures stands today.

Dumbo the Flying Elephant
The sound of the calliope will lead guests to the brand new Storybook Circus and not one but two circling carousels of airborne pachyderms on Dumbo the Flying Elephant. Before taking to the skies on this Fantasyland® favorite, guests can experience an array of fun-filled family games and interactive wonders for kids of all ages inside the Big Top.

The Great Goofini
Next door in Storybook Circus, the classic Goofy’s Barnstormer (currently in Mickey’s Toontown® Fair) gets a bright new look as well, featuring Goofy as The Great Goofini. It’s a twisting, turning roller coaster “flight” high above the circus fun.
