EARL OF SANDWICH® Celebrates Grand Opening in Downtown Disney® District

West Coasts guest can rejoice in the opening of California’s first EARL OF SANDWICH® – right in the heart of the Downtown Disney® District!

Originally expected to open earlier this summer, the new EARL OF SANDWICH® location is schedule to have its Grand Opening today. Famous for their hot sandwiches served on freshly baked artisan bread, the counter-service location will also feature soups, salads, wraps, and desserts on their lunch and dinner menus. Breakfast sandwiches and pastries will be available during the morning.

The restaurant will offer guests 14 different sandwiches all priced at $6.99, including their Original 1762 sandwich with roasted beef, sharp cheddar and creamy horseradish sauce. And through January 6th, their special Holiday Turkey Sandwich (oven roasted turkey, hearty stuffing, zesty cranberry sauce, seasoned mayonnaise, & warm gravy) will be available.

EARL OF SANDWICH® has become one of the most popular quick service dining locations in the Downtown Disney® Area of the Walt Disney World® Resort, and we expect the same at the Disneyland® Resort!

Fun Ways to Start the Day at the Disneyland Resort

What could be a better way to start a fun day at the parks than a delicious breakfast with some of your favorite friends?  Check out these breakfast character meals available at the Disneyland® Resort:

In Disneyland® Park: We like starting the day early in the theme park and getting photos with the characters checked off our to-do list. Minnie & Friends Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn fills us up and sends us on our way with cereals, made-to-order omelets, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, French toast, Mickey waffles, muffins, croissant, Danish and fresh fruit. And photos with Minnie and friends.

At Disney California Adventure® park: If you’ve got little girls, nothing beats starting the day at Ariel’s Disney Princess Celebration. Sit indoors or out and share the “breakfast tier” with fresh fruit, cheeses and cold cuts and pastries, bagels and croissants, followed by an ample platter of scrambled eggs, bacon, turkey sausage and potatoes. All those beautiful princesses make a stop at the table for memorable photos and smiling faces.

At Paradise Pier® Hotel: If you’re not in a hurry to get in the park, what’s better than breakfast with the Big Cheese? Surf’s Up! Breakfast With Mickey and Friends features made-to-order omelets, flatbreads, Mickey waffles, chocolate peanut butter banana French toast, smoothies, a parfait station, chilaquiles (one of our favorites), smoked salmon and all the fixins’ and more. It’s a satisfying meal, and Mickey Mouse and pals dance and sing and make a stop at every table.

At the Disneyland® Hotel: Join Chef Goofy and some other favorite Disney Characters at this whimsical Goofy’s Kitchen where everyone’s a kid! Dine on a wide selection of delicious dishes and laugh it up during your meal.  For breakfast, enjoy favorites like made-to-order omelets and fresh baked pastries or specialties like Mickey Mouse-shaped waffles and Goofy’s Peanut Butter Pizza.

At the Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel® & Spa: Join the lively Chip ‘n Dale Critter Breakfast for an unforgettable experience filled with music and lots of interactive fun featuring some of your favorite woodland friends. You may order from the menu or select your favorites from the Farmer’s Market buffet that serves up Mickey Mouse-shaped waffles, fresh fruit and made to order omelets.

Disney’s California Food & Wine Festival includes experiences for anyone who appreciates the art of food, wine and beer. Chefs, winemakers and brewmasters will celebrate The Art of Flavor with entertaining culinary demonstrations, outstanding wine and spirits seminars, and delicious food, wine and beer. You can experience the talents of chefs Guy Fieri and Cat Cora of Food Network, along with Disney culinary masters and special guests, as they present their gastronomic talents in a full menu of complimentary demonstrations and signature paid events, such as winemaker dinners, Sweet Sundays, the Napa Rose Cooking School and Taste Food-Wine-Life – a night that celebrates the essence of the festival with a mosaic of food, wine and live entertainment.

This year, the Hollywood Pictures Backlot comes to life with artists, musicians and an international beer menu at the Brewers Collection. At the new Festival Showplace located in Stage 12, you can sample from a delicious tapas menu at the Taste of California Marketplace and relax at the new Hollywood & Wine Lounge.

Among the most popular events at the festival are live culinary demonstrations and autograph sessions with popular celebrity chefs. Along with Guy Fieri and Cat Cora, those scheduled to appear include Robert Irvine, Jeffrey Saad and Kerry Simon.

Hundreds of complimentary experiences and cooking demonstrations will entertain you during the 46-day festival, many featuring the talents of Disneyland Resort chefs. Enjoy seminars that feature outstanding wine, spirits and beer.

At the spectacular ticketed events, food and wine aficionados will collect cooking tips from chefs, mingle with noted winemakers and celebrate the palette of flavors presented by culinary masters.

Also new this year is a Brewmaster Dinner on May 7, 2010. The ingredients for this memorable evening include savory seasonal fare artfully paired with handcrafted Karl Strauss beers.

Events returning for 2010 include the gala Taste Food-Wine-Life and other popular experiences:

  • Taste Food-Wine-Life: This fun, high-energy evening combines the best elements of the Food & Wine Festival into one grand celebration on May 29, 2010. The immersive party will have live entertainment, an outstanding selection of wines and colorful décor. Guests will stroll from station to station sampling delectable food dishes created by the chefs of theDisneyland Resort.
  • Sweet Sundays: The sweetest of all events features a light buffet breakfast and sparkling toast at the new Festival Showplace in Disney’s California Adventure Park. Guests will see demonstrations and taste signature desserts created by acclaimed pastry chefs, including Richard Ruskell of Montage Beverly Hills.
  • Winemaker Dinners: Disneyland Resort chefs partner with premier California winemakers to prepare outstanding culinary delights at exclusive Winemaker Dinners on selected Friday nights. Each festival meal is paired with award-winning vintages and served at Steakhouse 55, inside theDisneyland Hotel.
  • Napa Rose Cooking School: Disney Executive Chef Andrew Sutton will once again lead this hands-on course that sells out quickly. Each class will create and enjoy a four-course meal, expertly paired with wines, and each class member will go home with a white chef’s coat embroidered with the festival logo. This rare opportunity takes place in the show kitchen of the renowned Napa Rose restaurant at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel® & Spa. Guests must be at least 18 years old.
  • Introduction to Wine Tasting: In this entertaining class, Advanced Sommelier Joy Cushing introduces Guests to the joys of wine tasting. Guests will learn about wine regions, varietals, growing and harvesting techniques and then test their skills with a blind tasting.
