Genie’s Run Extended at Hyperion Theater

By popular demand, “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” will remain at Disney’s California Adventure® park.“Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” It was announced earlier in the year that the Genie would be leaving the Hyperion Theater at the end of this summer.  The Disney Company received many comments on their blog asking for Aladdin to continue its run.

Although “Toy Story – The Musical” was scheduled to move into Hyperion Theater following Genie’s last bow, Buzz, Woody and their pals will stay focused on the new additions in Toy Story Mania…for now.

Construction has been scheduled near the Hyperion Theater for August 15. That may still impact some performances, but Disney’s California Adventure® park is doing everything they can to keep the show up and running.

Now, close your eyes, make a wish and click here to see Genie in action at the Disneyland Resort.

‘Captain EO’ Returns to Disneyland Park

“Captain EO,” the classic musical spectacular that thrilled Disneyland park guests from 1986-1997, is now open again at theDisneyland® Park. The attraction’s return to Tomorrowland provides new audiences the opportunity to experience the original 3D production for the very first time, as well as a nostalgic look back for longtime fans wanting to see “The King of Pop” in a rare performance created for the big-screen.

The 17-minute interactive film stars Michael Jackson as “Captain EO” on his quest to change the world. With show-stopping musical numbers written by Michael Jackson, and stunning effects orchestrated by executive producer George Lucas and director Francis Ford Coppola, “Captain EO” is a sight and sound spectacular with an enduring message.

Screening in the same Tomorrowland® theater in which it debuted, “Captain EO” now features a new 70mm print and improved sound, thanks to acoustical enhancements made to the theater in recent years. A dazzling blend of music and images, “Captain EO” will take a new generation of Guests on a journey to the stars.

A New Stage Spectacular

“Toy Story – The Musical” will take over Hyperion Theatre in Disney’s California Adventure® Park in early 2011. The characters and playful plot from the original Disney-Pixar film, “Toy Story,” will come to life in this dazzling, musical stage spectacular where Guests will be treated to a unique “toys’ eye view” of life in Andy’s room.

The stage show will feature larger-than-life set design, new songs, vivid projected backgrounds and elaborate costumes. The journey follows Buzz Lightyear and Woody as they transform from jealous adversaries to best friends with an unbreakable bond. The 50-minute musical preserves the humor and heart of the original film.

To make way for this exciting addition, “Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” will close on Aug. 15, 2010. If you are visiting the Disneyland® Resort, you won’t want to miss the chance to catch this great show before its exit.

Celebrate the Return of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln

You now can celebrate the return of the most patriotic attraction at Disneyland® Park. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, a beloved attraction for nearly 45 years and a historic landmark in the development of Audio-Animatronics® technology, has reopened in the Main Street Opera House. With a new, stunningly lifelike Abraham Lincoln figure and an enriched presentation, the refreshed attraction combines the best elements of the original Disneyland Park 1965 show and the most advanced technical enhancements. (The show first opened at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.)

The new Lincoln figure represents several major milestones. The fully electric head – a first for human Disney Audio-Animatronicsfigures, which are traditionally hydraulically operated – is based on an all-new sculpt that is more lifelike than in previous versions of the show. Thanks to Imagineers, Lincoln is more realistic than ever before as he rises from his chair and speaks.

Upon entering the Main Street Opera House, Guests encounter a redesigned lobby, including a separate presentation of items relating to Abraham Lincoln’s life and work. In the auditorium, Guests will first view an onscreen program about Lincoln and the Civil War that features digitally enhanced versions of pictures and sound created for past versions of the show along with fresh material. Next, the state-of-the-art figure of the 16th President of the United States will take the stage to deliver a speech composed of highlights from speeches made by Lincoln during his lifetime. When the 15-minute show concludes, Guests exit through a gallery depicting notable Americans who have followed in Lincoln’s footsteps and continue to inspire others.

Some of the latest enhancements to the show include:

  • New Audio-Animatronics technology gives Abraham Lincoln more emotion and vitality during his speech.
  • New, specially commissioned artwork by animator John Pomeroy of “Pocahontas” is on display.
  • Audiences hear the original audio voice narration that has been preserved and made sharper using digital technology.
  • The narration includes passages never heard in past Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln presentations.

Utilizing advanced technology to present Lincoln’s words for a more innovative and inspirational journey, this re-opening provides a fresh take on the nostalgic presentation.

Disney Gallery Reopens in a New Location

The Disney Gallery has reopened at Disneyland® Park in its new location on Main Street, U.S.A.® (previously occupied by the Bank of Main Street).

While the location may be new, the remodeled Disney Gallery continues the outstanding tradition of showcasing original and one-of-a-kind Disney artwork and collectibles to Theme Park Guests. The new design maintains some of the unique elements of the former bank, including the popular bank vault, which is now used to display select pieces of historical Disney artwork.

In addition to the vault, the Disney Gallery is now made up of three separate rooms: two large display rooms and a merchandise room. The display rooms feature historic Walt Disney Imagineering conceptual art created during the development and enhancement stages of attractions and Disney-inspired art created by current and former Disney artists and Imagineers. Guests visiting the merchandise portion of the Disney Gallery will have the opportunity to purchase Disney prints (including on-the-spot prints from Print on Demand), sculptures, books and many other collectibles from popular Disney attractions and animated features.

The first exhibit on display at the new Disney Gallery location is “Enchanting the Classics.” This exhibit focuses on how artists at Walt Disney Imagineering have kept beloved Disneyland Resort® attractions such as the Submarine Voyage, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and “it’s a small world” fresh and exciting over the years with enhancements and surprises.

Toy Story Mania

Toy Story ManiaStep right up and compete in an interactive “Toy Story” adventure like no other. It’s Toy Story Mania!—a brand-new 4-D attraction inspired by Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story” films, debuting at Disney’s Hollywood Studios™ in Florida in late May and at Disney’s California Adventure® Park in Anaheim June 17, 2008. It’s one more magical reason for your Clients to visit Disney Parks during The Year of a Million Dreams celebration!

Guests will don 3-D glasses before boarding a carnival tram ride vehicle and zipping off into a world of midway-style games hosted by favorite characters like Woody, Buzz, Rex and Hamm! It’s a high-energy adventure that puts Guests right in the action as their game play triggers fun surprises that provide a fourth dimension of fun.

The carnival tram ride vehicles stop to face a series of game booths — high-tech yet rooted in classic midway games of skill — and Guests aim for 3-D animated targets using their own on-board spring-action shooters. Players pair up and sit side-by-side for a friendly competition that delivers an ever-changing variety of targets and surprises.

As they play, Guests can actually see the “virtual” objects they’ve launched leave their spring-action shooters and hit (or miss) the targets. And thanks to 4-D special effects technology, they may sense objects whirring past them as they pop out of the 3-D scenes. Play is energized by the spirit of the “Toy Story” characters cast in games that best suit their very animated personalities.

Toy Story Mania! raises the bar for interactive ride-game attractions and engages Guests in a whole new way with favorite characters from the “Toy Story” films. The Toy Story Mania! games are designed to be enjoyed by audiences of all ages and skills, from beginners to experienced gamers. And no matter how many times Guests return to ride and play, they can be sure every ride-through will seem different!

Woody and the “Toy Story” gang arrive next to encourage guests to kick up their heels, while Buzz Lightyear and the Little Green Aliens celebrate just how universal play can be, in any galaxy. Finally, after the parade has been revving up guests throughout the route, lovable Mater and his flashy buddy Lightning McQueen from “Cars” will bring up the rear.

Pixar Play Parade is now presented daily in Disney’s California Adventure Park as part of The Year of a Million Dreams celebration at Disneyland Resort.
