Hurricane Irene Update – From Disney
Tuesday, Aug. 23 – 5 p.m. EDT
Disney Cruise Line
The safety of our Guests and Crew is our first priority at Disney Cruise Line® and we are monitoring Hurricane Irene very closely. At this time, we anticipate that the current voyage of the Disney Dream will return
to Port Canaveral as scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, with the following voyage departing as planned.
Walt Disney World Resort
The Walt Disney World® Resort is operating under normal conditions as we continue to monitor the progress and path of Hurricane Irene. Based on the storm’s current path, forecasters predict little to no impact to us beyond rain and windy conditions late Thursday and into Friday morning.
My children are on the Dream right now, and I have no way of getting in touch with them. Is there any way to make sure all is well aboard the Dream?
Hi Holly,
You can rest assured that the Disney Dream is not experiencing any troubles from the hurricane. A cruise ship is actually a safer place to be when a hurricane is coming as cruise ships have sophisticated radar systems and are able to change course to get out of the way of any danger. If you should still want to call, here is the info you will need:
Guests seeking to contact passengers onboard Disney Cruise ships may call 1-888-DC-AT-SEA (1-888-322-8732) from the U.S. or 1-732-335-3281 from international countries. The price for these calls is current ship-to-shore rates and is managed by Maritime Tele-Communication Network. Satellite calling rates can be significantly higher than traditional long distance; current rates range up to ~$16 per minute (on in-bound international calls, there may be additional charges that apply).
To expedite your call, you should have the ship name, the name of the party you wish to contact, and a credit card form of payment.
Do you know if the cruise leaving September 1st from Port Canaveral will keep the same itinerary yet? Thanks for any information you can give.
At this time, the Disney Cruise leaving from Port Canaveral on September 1st is scheduled to keep the original itinerary. We’ll post here if there are any changes, but at this point, we do not anticipate any alterations.
It’s my first cruise to the bahamas Sept 15th and i started now reading about hurricane , any changes, precautions?
At this time, there are no itinerary changes being reported for Disney Cruise Line. Cruise ships are great about making sure everyone stays safe, and if itinerary changes are needed, the cruise lines won’t hesitate. Stay tuned to our site for any updates!
MSNBC said that the Dream did not stop at Castaway Cay on August 27th, but spent an extra day at Nassau. Do you know if this is true and is this the plan for the September 1st cruise?
From what we understand, that was the case. The captain has the authority to make itinerary changes and he felt that the sea conditions would not allow the ship to dock safely at Castaway Cay as well as some minor damage that required clean up before guest arrival. We hear that he did make an announcement saying Castaway Cay would return to full operation very soon. We have not heard any announcement from Disney Cruise Line regarding future itineraries, however, they may have to make that decision on the Castaway Cay day of your cruise.
