By the Numbers: 6 Disney Vacation “Must Pack” Items

SuitcaseSummer vacation is right around the corner! As our guests are making their final preparations for their upcoming Disney Vacations, we thought we would share a few “must pack” items for your packing list.

We turned to our experts for help! To keep from having a list a mile long, we skipped over some of the general items you’d find on a typical list – like sunscreen, toothpaste, comfortable shoes, etc. Instead, we focused on those items that after reading the list, you’ll likely say “I would have never thought of that!”

Without further ado, we present:

Magic Maker’s® Top 6 Disney Vacation “Must Pack” Items

  1. Zippered Storage Bags – This item quickly made its way to the top of our list simply because of the number of uses you will find for them! If you plan on enjoying one of the water attractions like Splash Mountain® or Kali River Rapids®, they are great to store any items you want to keep dry. This same idea also works in the event of rain! You can also use the bags to easily take any leftovers with you from your meals to snack on later. This is just a few of the common uses our Magic Makers® have found. Trust us on this one – take some with you, you’ll thank us later!
  2. Permanent Markers – This is another item with many uses. Characters love them as they are often easier to use when signing autographs (get a few colors to add a splash of color to your autograph book). They will also come in handy for labeling items – like water bottles or cups.
  3. Hand Sanitizer – There’s nothing worse than coming down with a bug while on vacation. Pack a few little bottles of hand sanitizer for easy access wherever you are. Simply use after enjoying hands on experiences and before eating. Having hand sanitizer comes in handy at the Disney Parks and aboard Disney Cruise Line®.
  4. Power Strip – If you think about it, most of your modern conveniences either require electricity for use or to be charged at some point during the day. Your phone, hairdryer, MP3, handheld games, eBook reader – so many devices, not enough outlets! A power strip or two will be a lifesaver, especially in your stateroom on Disney Cruise Line®.
  5. Chewing Gum – Available at nearly every retail location you walk into, chewing gum is not something you’d think to add to your packing list. But if you are a regular gum chewer, you’ll want to! Chewing gum is not sold at Orlando International Airport or the Walt Disney World® Resort.
  6. Poncho – Since the weather can be so unpredictable, it’s much easier to go prepared! While poncho are available for purchase at nearly every merchandise location at the Walt Disney World® Resort, Disneyland® Resort, and aboard Disney Cruise Line®, our Magic Makers® suggest you save money by purchasing some cheap disposable ponchos from your local retailer before leaving home.

There you have it – but this is just the start of it! With countless trips and years of experience at Disney Destinations, our Magic Makers® have many more tips and tricks to share with their clients. Contact us today to start planning your next Magical vacation!

Video: The Magic is in the Details – The Food

One thing cruises have always been known for is their food! From buffets to table service meals, there is always another opportunity to eat!

Disney Cruise Line® sails above the industry standards when it comes to dining. Each of their four ships has uniquely themed restaurants that are as delightful as they are delicious. Disney Cruise Line® pioneered the rotational dining experience. Guests will “rotate” to a different restaurant each night of their sailing, giving them an opportunity to appreciate all the tastes and experiences on board. The best part is that your servers “rotate” with you, providing you with familiar and personalized service each night! Having crew members that already know your dining preferences and dietary restrictions makes for a much more enjoyable dining experience. And outside of the restaurants, guests have access to buffets, quick service locations, and 24-hour room service which is included in their fare.

See what past Disney Cruise Line® guests have to say about the onboard dining.

‘Splashtacular Fun’ Coming to Disney Magic®

Disney Magic from TenderLast Friday, Disney Cruise Line® announced plans for a major refurbishment of their original ship, Disney Magic®. From stem to stern, the vessel will be updated with new adventures and features for its guests to enjoy. Click here for a summary of all the changes that will take place this fall.

The upper decks of the Disney Magic® will be redesigned to provide “splashtacular fun” for guests of all ages! The biggest addition (and the one that is getting the most ‘buzz’) is the AquaDunk, a three-story body slide that begins with a surprise launch. It all starts when the rider steps into a translucent tube to await a near-vertical launch when the floor beneath them gives way. Their wet and wild ride from deck 13 to deck 10 even takes them 20 feet over the side of the ship, allowing a glimpse at the ocean 112 feet below! It will be a totally new and unique experience from the AquaDuck which is available on the Disney Dream® and the Disney Fantasy®. Safety precautions will require guests to be over 48″ to experience the AquaDunk.

The former Mickey’s Pool area will be transformed into the AquaLab, an interactive water playground similar to the one found on the Disney Fantasy®. Open to children ages 3 and up, the AquaLab features pop jets, geysers, and bubblers to ensure everyone gets their share of wetness! For sailors between 38″ and 64″ tall, a new Twist n’ Spout slide will be installed.

Also being reimagined is Mickey’s Splash Zone, which will become Nephews’ Splash Zone. Available exclusively for guests up to age 3, it is an area themed after Donald Duck’s nephews – Huey, Dewey, and Louie – and will provide a place for tots to cool off!

Additional poolside fun will be available on Deck Nine for families at Goofy’s Pool and for adults at the Quiet Cove Pool.

Whether your definition of “fun in the sun” consists of a tranquil day lounging poolside in a deck chair or an exhilarating ride in the new AquaDunk, it will all be waiting for you on the Upper Decks of the newly reimagined Disney Magic® when it debuts Oct. 10, 2013!

How’d They Do That? – Spaceship Earth Transformation

Last night at the Walt Disney World® Resort, Disney Parks called upon the help of Mike Wazowski to announce their upcoming Monstrous Summer All-Nighter on May 24, 2013. But in typical Disney fashion, the announcement had to be huge – 188 feet huge to be exact!

The result was the transformation of the beloved Epcot® icon, Spaceship Earth, into an “Eye-Con” created specifically for this “Eye-nnouncement.” Enjoy this video explaining how it all came together!
