Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

“Stop whining, what do you want to do next?”

I could feel the frustration in this mother’s voice as the words echoed from her lips amidst the crowd in Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park.

The child barely got their mouth open to answer before their mother chimed in with, “you know what I don’t care what you want to do…”

I am sure you can guess that this frustrated family was not smiling.

Walt Disney World® Resort, Disneyland® Resort and Disney Cruise Line® are amazing vacation destinations, second to none in quality and service. There truly is something for everyone.  But as with any destination so large and so popular it is easy to allow frustration to set in and begin to ‘steal’ away priceless memories with your family and/or friends.

Between the crowds, the fatigue from trying to ‘do it all’, the weather, personality clashes and unpredictable moments; it is easy to take away from the excitement of being at ‘the Happiest Place on Earth’.

What can we say, we are about full disclosure.

The best advice we can offer, “Don’t sweat the small stuff…and it is all small stuff.” – R. Carlson

While I don’t know about you and your family, it seems like the things that frustrate my family the most on our trips become the things we laugh about the most when we get home. From squirrels stealing our food to bird droppings in our hair and the occasional ‘sour apple’ person we’ve encountered, we’ve had plenty of situations to steal our fun.

We can become the frowning family in Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park because we let our situations get the best of us, or we can choose to be the family with mouse ears perched atop our heads and turkey legs in our hands…laughing our way through the good, and the bad.

A trip to Walt Disney World® Resort, Disneyland® Resort or Disney Cruise Line® does not happen every day, and learning not to sweat the small stuff will help you make the most of your trip and the time you have there with family and friends!

One way to help relieve a lot of vacation stress is to allow your Magic Maker® to help you plan and prepare for your trip, from itineraries to dinner reservations…all at no cost to you! Be prepared, take time to rest, and remember not to sweat the small stuff, and you are certain to make the most of your time at the Happiest Place on Earth!

Entertainment Changes in Fantasyland® at Disneyland® Park

Effective this morning, the meet and greet locations for Princesses inside Disneyland® Park has changed.

Guests will now find the Disney Princesses located along the path to the “it’s a small world®” attraction. This will serve as a temporary home for the Princesses while their new meet and greet location, Fantasy Faire, is under construction. The all-new Fantasy Faire will be located to the left of Sleeping Beauty Castle and is scheduled to open Spring 2013.

Crews will begin construction on the former meet and greet location today in preparation for a new show that will debut in the Fantasyland® Theatre in Summer 2013. While specific details of the new show have not been released, Disneyland® Park’s Creative Team has said it will be an original production. During this construction, the Troubadour Tavern will also be closed.

Walt Disney Imagineering has released these photos and artist renderings of the model for Fantasy Faire. We will bring you more as details become available about both Fantasy Faire and the new show at the Fantasyland® Theatre.

Mouse’s Best Friend?

It is said that a dog is a man’s best friend, but is it a mouse’s? Well heads up, Pluto, we think you may have some competition!

Meet Lily, a nearly 3-month old Labrador-Cathahoula mix. While searching for a new dog, Lily caught the attention of Francisco and Mejay Aguerre, and their daughter Nicole. The breeder said she had “unusual markings,” but these markings were hardly unusual to the Aguerres who are all three cast members at the Walt Disney World® Resort. They quickly recognized the marking as a perfect Hidden Mickey!

Lily, named after Walt Disney’s wife, Lillian, recently had an opportunity to meet Mickey Mouse! Enjoy the video – we bet you’ll fall in love!

The Pirates League Drops Anchor in Disneyland® Park

Captain Jack wants to train YOU in the scurrilous ways of buccaneers! Him and his crew are on course and are scheduled to hit land on Sep. 1st, 2012, at Disneyland® Park. Once they have set up shop at The Pirates League inside the Court of Angels in New Orleans Square, their active recruitment will start!

The Pirates League provides the ultimate pirate transformation for mates 3 years or older. Once receiving their new Pirate name and look, they will recite the sacred Pirate League oath. The entire experience from beginning to end is extremely interactive and something your child will never forget!

Different packages will be available for guests to choose from –  Jake and the Never Land Pirates, the First Mate, and the Empress for the little Princesses in your party. Packages range from $29.95 – $34.95 with various costume options being additional.

Captain Jack and his crew are pretty busy, so they will only be in town for a limited time before setting sail for their next destination. Reservations will only be accepted for dates this fall, so this isn’t an event you will want to put off until later. Our Magic Makers® will start making reservations for The Pirates League starting Aug. 7th, so contact them today with your request.

Disneyland® Resort Guests Can Now ‘Ask Otto’

Our guests visiting the Disneyland® Resort in Southern California now have an second resource for questions in addition to their Magic Maker®.

Ask Otto

Disney Imagineers introduced the automated Ask Otto! over the weekend. Otto will be able to assist guests with park hours, show times for parades and fireworks, and dining options. Otto’s biggest feature is being able to access attraction information like wait times and Disney FASTPASS® Service return times! If Otto isn’t able to help you himself, he will transfer you to a cast member for assistance.

Disney’s FASTPASS® Service Creates More Fun, Less Wait

Originally introduced on July 21, 1999, Disney’s FASTPASS® Service has become a valuable tool to theme park guests wanting to avoid long lines for favorite attractions. At FASTPASS® attractions, guests can choose  to wait in the regular queue or put their valid theme park ticket into a special machine and receive a FASTPASS® ticket denoting a one-hour window of time when they can return and enter the attraction with little or no wait.

Disney’s FASTPASS® Service is available complimentary to all park guests with a valid theme park admission. Guests may obtain FASTPASSES® at the following attractions:

  • Magic Kingdom® Park
    • Space Mountain®
    • Splash Mountain®
    • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad®
    • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin®
    • Jungle Cruise®
    • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
    • Peter Pan’s Flight®
    • Dumbo The Flying Elephant®
    • Town Square Theater Meet & Greets

    • Soarin’ Over California
    • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™
    • World of Color (distributed at Grizzly River Run)

Disney’s FASTPASS® Service is easy to use:

  1. Visit any attraction offering the FASTPASS® Service. The wait time as well as the FASTPASS® distribution times will be displayed. If you choose to bypass the queue and utilize the FASTPASS® Service, simply insert your theme park ticket into the FASTPASS® machine. You will receive a FASTPASS® ticket denoting a one-hour window for you to return — for example, 10:45-11:45 a.m. In this example, you cannot enter the attraction using FASTPASS® before 10:45 but can return at any time during the designated one-hour window.
  2. Upon returning at the designated time, head straight for the FASTPASS® entrance and proceed directly to the attraction pre-show or boarding area with little or no wait.

Guests are able to get several FASTPASSES® throughout the day in the Disney theme parks. However, you cannot immediately obtain multiple FASTPASS® tickets. Your FASTPASS® will contain the time in which you can obtain an additional FASTPASS® on the bottom of it. Select attractions, like World of Color at Disney California Adventure® Park, is excluded from this restriction.

Please consult your Magic Maker® for full details on how you can maximize Disney’s FASTPASS® Service to your benefit on your next vacation!

Olympic Dreams Begin at Disney Parks

Disneyland 2012 Olympic CavalcadeIn the past couple weeks, both the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida and the Disneyland® Resort in California have hosted events for USA Olympic athletes hoping to make their dreams come true at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

A send-off party for Brittany Viola, a U.S. Olympic Diving Team member, was held inside Planet Hollywood® at the Downtown Disney® Area of the Walt Disney World® Resort. Viola will perform in the women’s 10-meter platform this August. During Trials, she qualified with almost 60 more points than the second place qualifier!

This past Tuesday, the Anaheim-based men’s and women’s USA Volleyball teams were the stars of a special cavalcade on Main Street, U.S.A® at Disneyland® Park. With Mickey and his pals by their side, the teams walked to the beats of the Disneyland® Resort All-American College Band while being showered with red, white and blue confetti. The U.S. Women’s and Men’s National Volleyball Teams are ranked #1 and #5 in the world respectively.

These patriotic tributes were a great way for Disney Parks to recognize the dreams of all U.S. athletes who are on their way to represent our country in the Olympic Games.
