Fantastic Fantasmic! Meal Experiences

Fantasmic Dinner Package

By Magic Maker® Heather Straight

Lights. Music. Pyrotechnics. Dancing. Lasers. Giant animatronic dragons. Video projected on massive screens of water. Good triumphing over evil.  The Fantasmic!  Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios™ in Florida and Disneyland® Park in California are nighttime extravaganzas that are the very best of Walt Disney World® Resort and Disneyland® Resort entertainment and showmanship, and a highlight of every vacation for my family.  No matter how many times I see the show, I never fail to get goose bumps and tear up at the crucial moment when Sorcerer Mickey…well, I won’t give away the ending, but it’s a spectacle you don’t want to miss.

The shows are so popular that it can be tough to get a seat for the action.  People begin lining up to grab a spot 60-90 minutes before show time (even longer during peak travel seasons). You can avoid the line and have a tasty meal by taking advantage of a Fantasmic! Meal Experience.

Walt Disney World Resort® Dining Options

At Walt Disney World® Resort, Fantasmic! Show plays at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater in Disney’s Hollywood Studios™ to packed crowds.  There are bleachers for sitting and some standing room at the back when the seats have all been filled (which they do for nearly every show!).  There are no bad seats here, but if you want to guarantee yourself a seat without a very long wait in line before the show, then a Fantasmic! Meal Experience is the way to go.  You’ll enjoy lunch or dinner and then get a voucher to enter the Reserved Section of the amphitheater. The restaurant choices are:

  • Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano – available for lunch or dinner, and only 1 Table Service credit on the Disney Dining Plan.
  • Hollywood & Vine – this buffet meal is available only for dinner, and is also just 1 Table Service credit on the dining plan
  • The Hollywood Brown Derby – this signature dining experience is available for lunch or dinner Fantasmic! packages, and is 2 Table Service credits on the Disney Dining Plan (or 1 credit on the Deluxe Dining Plan)

We’ve tried a Fantasmic! Meal Experience at all three restaurants; my kids’ favorite was the Hollywood & Vine buffet, but my husband and I really loved the ambiance and amazing food at The Hollywood Brown Derby (it makes for an excellent romantic diner option). These packages are very popular, especially during peak seasons; your Magic Maker can help you reserve one 180 days prior to the start of your Walt Disney World® Resort vacation. A credit card hold is required.

Disneyland® Resort Dining Options

The original home of Fantasmic! Show, the show is performed right in the middle of the action at the Disneyland® Park on the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.  There is no seating available here, just first-come, first-served standing room only (although if you arrive early enough to stake out a spot right in front, you can sit on the ground and still see the show).  If you want a chair, then the Premium Seating Dessert Package is for you.  At $60 per person, this is one of the most decadent things you can do to enhance your Disneyland® Park experience!

After you check-in with a Cast Member at a podium just across from Haunted Mansion® Attraction (we were directed to “look for the churro cart!”), you’ll be led to reserved, elevated seats front and center, with unobstructed views of the Rivers of America.  After you make yourself comfortable, another Cast Member will bring each of you a huge box filled with desserts.  Ours included mini key lime pie, cheesecake, fruit tart, and brownies, cookies, chocolate truffles, a selection of cheeses and crackers, and fruit.  It was so much food that even after I stuffed myself to bursting, I still had over half leftover to take back to the hotel (which I may have eaten for breakfast, but I’ll never tell!).  The Cast Member will also offer you all you can drink hot chocolate, coffee, hot tea, bottled water, or Coke products, and he or she will continue to serve you throughout the show.   Our view of the show was spectacular, and we felt extremely pampered.

Disneyland® Resort also offers dining packages for the wildly popular World of Color show that takes place in front of Paradise Pier at Disney California Adventure® Park.  We opted for the picnic, which you can pick up for lunch or dinner.  You have a choice of several different meals that are conveniently packed into boxes and a souvenir reusable bag, and they have a great picnic area with tables and chairs.  They also offer two table service options for the World of Color package:

  • Ariel’s Grotto: 3-course dinner (great seafood choices, although the character don’t appear during dinner)
  • Wine Country Trattoria: lunch or dinner

All of these options include a ticket for the World of Color Viewing Area, and the prices range from $15.99 to $39.99.  Your Magic Maker can reserve one of these packages for you 30 days prior to your Disneyland® Resort vacation.  Full payment is required at the time of booking for both the Fantasmic! Show and World of Color packages.

Coffee Lovers Rejoice – Starbucks Coming to Disney Parks

Starbucks

One common question asked by our guests is where they can find a REAL cup of coffee on Disney property. While coffee is available at almost all counter and table service dining locations, it seems to always fall short of expectations.

Disney Parks has announced their plans to add a Starbucks location to each of their six U.S. Theme Parks inside the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida and the Disneyland® Resort in California.

The first of the planned Starbucks is scheduled to open in June inside Disney California Adventure® Park.  Each location will be creatively themed with their location inside the park. In addition to traditional Starbucks items, guests will also be able to choose from a selection of breakfast sandwiches, pastries, sandwiches, and sweets throughout the day.

Disneyland® Hotel Goes Green

After the recent renovations at the Disneyland® Hotel, you will notice that its exterior looks a little blue. But if you stare into that shade of blue, you will see a lot of “GREEN!”

Those blue tinted windows are just one of the many energy-efficient changes that were made at the Disneyland® Hotel.

Rona Kay, Manager of Disneyland® Hotel, explains how this historic hotel was made a little more environmentally friendly

Unexpected ‘Clean’ Fun at Walt Disney World® Resort & Disneyland® Resort

by Magic Maker® Kyle Froman

PUSHWe all know that Walt Disney World® Resort and Disneyland® Resort are full of good, clean fun for the entire family. However theme park Imagineers have taken the term clean comedy quite literally. In a world where hidden surprises and fun interactions are the norm, there are two characters that are certain to steal the spotlight and put a smile on your face in the parks.

In Magic Kingdom® Park’s Tomorrowland® Area, you will find a clean, interactive character that will leave you and your travel party laughing, yet scratching your head saying ‘how’d they do that’! PUSH, the roaming and talking garbage can, makes his appearance near Mickey’s Star Traders and Tomorrowland Speedway, interacting and joking with guests.

PUSH is an actual, functioning Tomorrowland® Area trash bin, and derived his name from the large word ‘PUSH’ found on the trash can flaps. Go ahead and peek inside PUSH to see for yourself! PUSH is able to see what you see, and hear what you hear all in real time, creating hysterical interactions between guests and himself.

While PUSH started making appearances at Magic Kingdom® Park in 1995, PUSH the Talking Trash Can also makes appearances daily at Disnelyand® Park and Disney California Adventure®!

In Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park you will find a clean comedian of a different sort in Rafiki’s Planet Watch® Land. Pipa, who is the recycling container version of PUSH, greats and interacts with guests, encouraging them to take an interest in recycling. A quick peek inside of Pipa will again reveal he is the real deal!  Pipa’s name is derived from the word container in Swahili!

If you are wondering how PUSH and Pipa operate, well we aren’t going to spoil that bit of magic here! But we would encourage you to take the time to visit PUSH and Pipa, as well as many of the other hidden treasures around Walt Disney World® Resort and Disneyland® Resort! There are countless hidden surprises to uncover and explore!

Has your family had any interactions with PUSH or Pipa? Tell us about them in the comments section below!

Disney Resorts – Saving Lives One Bar of Soap at a Time

Clean The World LogoEach year, millions of children worldwide die from hygiene-related illnesses because the essential items for proper hand washing are unobtainable to them. It is estimated that every 10 seconds a child dies from these types of illnesses – all preventable by just a single bar of soap!

An Orlando-based nonprofit organization, The Clean the World® Foundation, aims to stop these needless deaths from occurring by recycling used soap and shampoo and distributing them around the world to those living in poverty. With Walt Disney World® Resort’s 24 resort hotels located in central Florida, they play a key role in helping Clean the World® reach their goal. But it doesn’t end there – resort hotels at Disneyland® Resort in California as well as Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawai’i, also recycle hygiene products with Clean the World®.

“Disney’s commitment to environmental sustainability permeates throughout the entire company. They are literally turning trash into treasure through Clean the World®, and that benefits the global community by creating a cleaner world” said Shawn Seipler, executive director of Clean the World®.

From Jan. – Sep. of 2010, Disney cast members collected more than 25,000 pounds of partially-used soaps, shampoos, conditioners and lotions from the nearly 28,000 hotel rooms on Walt Disney World® Resort property! This collection not only allows the cast members and guests to clean the world, but it repurposes something that was headed to the landfill.

After the discarded amenities are sanitized, Clean the World® distributes the items to people in need as part of their ongoing efforts to improve health and personal hygiene in impoverished areas worldwide. Some of these products are even donated to shelters and various organizations throughout the United States.

So next time you use that bar of soap in your resort room, smile knowing that it will soon be saving lives!

Environmental Awareness Part of Disneyland® Resort’s Heritage

With Earth Day only a week away, we are going to showcase some of the way Disney Parks focuses on the environment.

Walt Disney expressed his commitment to the conservation of natural resources more than 60 years ago and the Disneyland® Resort continuously looks for ways to make their daily operations more environmentally friendly.

Check out this video to see some of the ways in which Disneyland® Resort “goes GREEN!”.
