Coming Attractions

New experiences are headed your way this summer at the Disneyland Resort.

At Disney California Adventure™ park, get ready for an all-new voyage with one of Disney’s most beloved characters, Ariel. The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure will invite guests to take a journey under the sea to experience all the fun and adventures in Ariel’s world. From the great songs to state-of-the-art animatronics and special effects, guests will become a part of her world in a way that’s never happened before.  It is scheduled to open June 3.

The Little Mermaid attraction is the next big milestone in the expansion of Disney California Adventure™ park.  World of Color debuted last year and continues to wow guests every night with magic that combines choreographed fountains, lights, lasers, music, animation and storytelling. And on the horizon, guests can see the awesome Cadillac Mountain range taking shape as the backdrop to the 12-acre Cars Land, which opens in 2012.

Across the esplanade at Disneyland® park, guests this summer will be dancing to the beat of a whole new parade and jetting off to new galaxies far, far away.

“Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” officially steps off for Memorial Day weekend, with an explosive musical score, thrilling rhythms and bold percussion that will have people dancing to many of their favorite Disney tunes. Look for whimsical float units, live musicians and some of your favorite characters. Mickey Mouse and his pals will be jamming like never before and creating an atmosphere that will be…soundsational!

And for those who dare to venture into the deep, dark corners of the universe, Star Tours®– The Adventures Continue officially launches in Tomorrowland at Disneyland® park on June 3, taking guests on interstellar adventures to Coruscant, Tatooine, and other destinations in the Star Wars galaxy. With the return of favorite Star Wars characters and the addition of more familiar faces and destinations, guests are going to experience Starspeeder travel in an all-new way…in 3D!

Star Tours® – The Adventures Continue also launches at Disney’s Hollywood Studios™ at Walt Disney World® Resort on May 20.

Disney Junior-Live on Stage! opens in March

To celebrate the premiere of the new television creation Disney Junior – which launched Monday – “Disney Junior — Live on Stage!” will debut at Disney Parks in Florida and California. Disney’s Hollywood Studios™ will present this show beginning March 4, and Disney California Adventure® park will open the show March 25.

“Disney Junior — Live on Stage!” debuts with a new marquee, new characters and a new segment based on Disney Junior’s newest series, “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.” It is scheduled to run daily.

This new production, which brings back three audience favorites from “Playhouse Disney – Live on Stage!” (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny and Little Einsteins) and also introduces the adventures of “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.”

“Disney Junior — Live on Stage!” continues the imaginative, family-based fun that comes from being part of a live audience. The entertaining show pops to life with bright visuals and whimsical scenery that fill the stage, while guests enjoy four mini-episodes of playful Disney storytelling, fun songs and interactive moments.

Sneak down the path of the waterfalls of the Disneyland Hotel to steal a kiss. Take a spin on Mickey’s Fun Wheel in Paradise Pier at night. Fly to Neverland on Peter Pan’s Flight in Fantasyland.

Get away from the worries and stress of every day life, and enjoy a romantic cruise with your significant other.  Enjoy coffee together at the Cove Café. The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

Since the expansion of Disney California Adventure® park was announced, Toy Story Mania!Games of the BoardwalkMickey’s Fun WheelSilly Symphony Swings and of course, the nighttime spectacular, “World of Color” have all opened. Now, Walt Disney Imagineering has turned its sights to the next highly-anticipated opening: The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, coming soon in 2011. In this video, Imagineer Lisa Girolami takes you behind the curtain to give you a first look at Ariel’s world. From the drawing board to the incredible scenery, this is an attraction sure to make a splash with guests.

The Magic, The Memories, and You

In a dramatic new projection show filled with special effects and magic, Cinderella Castle at the Walt Disney World® Resort and “it’s a small world” at the Disneyland® Park transform into shimmering spectacles during “Let the Memories Begin.”  The ten-minute projection show, presented on select nights, is highlighted by images of guests photographed that same day while playing in the parks.

The nightly show combines guest photos from that day in Disneyland® Park and Magic Kingdom® Park with photos and videos taken from Disney’s “Let the Memories Begin” online hub. Classic Disney music is woven into the new “Let the Memories Begin” theme song, creating a musical and visual journey that traces the family vacation experience from surprise announcements through arrival and fun at the Disney Parks.

The show finale features a burst of fireworks over “it’s a small world” or Cinderella Castle.

That’s what it looks like. It’s harder to tell you what the show feels like. Watching the photos will remind guests of all ages of their most cherished Disney memories, as a kaleidoscope of images is projected onto the classic Disney icons.

Pixar Play Parade on Hiatus

The first Pixar-themed, roaming show started last week at Disney California Adventure® theme park, which is giving an entertainment alternative while the Pixar Play Parade is on hiatus. The park plans to host shows using characters and props from the Pixar Play Parade for most of this year.

The Disneyland® Resort put the parade on break until November while major construction is ongoing in the park.  A show based on “The Incredibles” movie, called “The Incredibles: Heroes in Training Squad,” is set to begin Friday, said John McClintock, a Disneyland® Resort spokesman. It will run six times, five days a week. The tentative schedule is: 11 a.m., noon, 1, 2:15, 3:15 and 4:15 p.m.

The show will go on in front of the ElecTRONica stage near the park’s entrance or in front of the cloud-painted wall of the Hyperion Theater in Hollywood Pictures Backlot.  The second show based on “Monsters Inc.” is scheduled to start Jan. 28.

Character Fan Days Results

Make plans to see some of your favorite characters that are difficult to find in the parks! For the first time ever, the Disneyland® Resort gave Guests achance to decide which rarely seen Disney characters they wanted to see in Disneyland® park. The selections will be included in the entertainment for the Character Fan Days, which are part of “Family Fun Weekends” – eight weekends of fun, January 14 through March 6, at Disneyland® park.

Family Fun Weekends

Family Fun Weekends at the Disneyland® Resort

Do you like fiestas, hoedowns, Mardi Gras, Lunar New Year and Disney Characters? Then you won’t want to miss the next seven weekends at Disneyland® park.  Families know they can find magic and excitement whenever they visit Disneyland® Resort, and the next few weekends will offer a special reason to play at Disneyland® park.

“Family Fun Weekends” are themed events that invite guests to enjoy music, dancing, and special food and merchandise, along with a chance to meet and take photos with some Disney characters in specially themed attire. Last weekend, for example, Fiesta Mickey and Minnie Mouse greeted guests at Festival Arena in colorful, folklorico attire.

These events take place weekend days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first five weekends will be held at Festival Arena (at the back of Frontierland), and the final three weekends will move to New Orleans Square.

Fiesta Disneyland – Jan. 14-16:
The first weekend celebrates the Hispanic culture and experience in a colorful, lively event, featuring performance groups such as award-winning Mariachi Divas.

Disney’s Kickin’ Country Weekend – Jan. 21-23:
This weekend will feature live music – including band Forth Worth West – and a Disney hoedown with Cowboy Mickey and Cowgirl Minnie Mouse.

Character Fan Days – Jan. 28-30:
This is your chance to meet and take photos with some rarely seen characters. Think of this as the ultimate Disney character reunion – featuring the characters that you told us you would most like to meet. Stay tuned to see which characters will be available to see.

Lunar New Year Festival – Feb. 4-6 and Feb. 11-13:

Two weekends will be devoted to Lunar New Year, when time-honored traditions and family celebrations are observed within the Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures as the sun and moon begin their journeys for another year.

Mardi Gras – Feb. 18-20, Feb. 25-27 and March 4-6:
Three weekends will be devoted to a lively, New Orleans-style Mardi Gras event, with vibrant excitement, jazzy music and sensational food of New Orleans. Where else? At New Orleans Square. Princess Tiana, along with a cavalcade of some Disney characters in their Mardi Gras finery, will appear at a photo location in the Court of Angels, staffed by Disney PhotoPass photographers.

Disneyland Resort celebrates the New Year

Disneyland Park FireworksNo New Year’s parties planned this year?  You might consider celebrating at the Disneyland® Resort on New Year’s Eve. This year, there will be special entertainment added to the traditional holiday fireworks in Disneyland® park and the spectacular new “World of Color” show in Disney California Adventure® park.

In Disneyland® park, hours are extended to 2 a.m., and stages will be set up around the park for countdown festivities. DJs will encourage guests to dance into the new year at Sleeping Beauty Castle and “it’s small world” Promenade while live bands will liven up Tomorrowland Terrace, Carnation Plaza Gardens and New Orleans Square, which will also be the site of three performances of “Fantasmic!” at 9 and 10:15 p.m. and immediately following the midnight “Fantasy in the Sky” New Year’s fireworks show.

At Disney California Adventure®, where park hours are extended to 1 a.m., there will be special entertainment along the Paradise Pier boardwalk and a “fountains and fireworks” countdown to midnight in Paradise Park, immediately followed by the first “World of Color” show of 2011. (Earlier New Year’s Eve performances of “World of Color” will take place at 8 and 9:15 p.m.) In Hollywood Pictures Backlot, revelers on the grid in “ElecTRONica”will heat up throughout the night and into the new year.

Beginning at 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve, party hats and noisemakers will be available while supplies last in both Disneyland® park, at the Festival Arena near Big Thunder Ranch, and Disney California Adventure® park, in Condor Flats near the vintage airplane just west of the entrance to Soarin’ Over California.

The Downtown Disney® District and the Disneyland® Resort hotels will join in the merriment with twinkling lights and ornaments, special entertainment and holiday dining.
