Finding ‘Flame Tree Barbecue’ Favorites

Flame Tree Barbeque, a quick service restaurant located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, is undoubtedly a favorite among our Magic Makers® and guests. Serving in-house smoked chicken, St. Louis Ribs and pulled pork, the savory flavors quickly justifies the wait that is typical all day long at the location.

You can imagine our disappointment when we saw Flame Tree Barbeque make an appearance on the Walt Disney World® refurbishment list! Scheduled to be closed through March 31, 2015, additional seating areas are being added to the location which is greatly needed.

Well, the Dining Team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park isn’t one to let down the hungry guest in search of a lip-smackin’, hearty meal! During the refurbishment, many favorites from Flame Tree Barbeque will be available temporarily at select kiosks throughout the park!

But where do you find them?

1/2 Slab St. Louis Ribs

The Walt Disney World® Resort Difference

By Magic Maker®  Kyle Froman

One of our most vivid trips to Walt Disney World® Resort was in December of 2003. It was my Honeymoon with my new bride (so it had better be vivid right?!). We were embarking on our first Disney Cruise Line® voyage, to be followed by a short stay at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. We had been planning our trip for almost a year and our anticipation, and expectations were extremely high.

The first several days of our honeymoon were absolutely fantastic; they were everything we had dreamt of, and more. However, as our sailing aboard Disney Cruise Line® drew to a close, an unexpected visitor decided to pay us a visit, Mr. Flu. Unfortunately Mr. Flu is no respecter of newlyweds or honeymoons.

These were hardly the high expectations we had in planning our trip. Regardless, the honeymoon must go on!

After muscling through a very tough night we arrived back at Port Canaveral and were ready to disembark and try our land legs out again, making our way to Disney’s Polynesian Resort. The check-in process was pleasant, however I was completely miserable. I can only imagine what the Cast Member assisting us thought about our honeymoon comedy duo, it had to appear as if our honeymoon was pure drudgery.

With all of the joy a newlywed could muster, I drug our bags out of the lobby and to the building we were staying in, mustering just enough strength to get us into the door I plopped onto the bed where I intended to stay until my body told me otherwise. After a few minutes, which felt like an eternity, there was a knock at the door.

On the other side of the door was a Cast Member, bearing a covered room service tray. Our first assumption was that the Cast Member had the wrong room, and now we were being inconvenienced by their error. The Cast Member was persistent that it was for us, and left it on the small table in our room to carry on with his next delivery.

Upon uncovering the tray, we find a piping hot bowl of chicken noodle soup, along with a get well soon card from the Cast Member who checked us in to our room. We did not tell this Cast Member I was sick, she just knew, and she went beyond any reasonable act of service to make sure our trip exceeded any expectation we could ever have.

This is the Walt Disney World® Resort difference.

You see, Walt Disney World® Resort doesn’t employ staff members or even team members, they employ Cast Members. By their very name they get into the ‘production’ of creating a vacation experience that is unlike any other.

The Walt Disney World® Resort difference is found in its Cast Members and their care of our investment is why our family will return year, after year, after year.

Disney Destinations and Dietary Needs

By Magic Maker® Melissa Ludwig

Vacations are a way of escaping from everyday life, leaving stress behind, and spending quality time with those you care about. However, there are many points during the planning process that can cause stress, and your Magic Maker® is here to take that off your shoulders. One of the common causes of stress for traveling families is in accommodating special dietary needs. Disney Destinations, as usual, have pulled out all the stops to make sure that you do not have to worry about what you will be eating during your magical getaway.

Whether it is a dairy intolerance, sensitivity to gluten, or a specific food such as almonds that you must avoid in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, Disney Destinations will to their best to cater to any special requests. When you and your Magic Maker® are ready to make advance dining reservations, notify your Magic Maker® of your special dietary needs and they will make sure to include this in your reservations. Often, chefs can substitute different ingredients in meals, so that you don’t even have to choose an alternate meal, but actually have the one you want! The following is a list of common allergies that most Disney Parks restaurants can accommodate/substitute:

  • Gluten or wheat
  • Lactose or dairy
  • Peanuts and tree nuts
  • Shellfish
  • Soy
  • Fish
  • Eggs
  • Corn

When you arrive at a Disney Park restaurant, it is always a good idea to remind your server of your dietary needs as well (though the server will often check with you first, since it will be in your reservation notes). If you have a metabolic disorder or multiple allergies, you will want to be sure to notify your Magic Maker® so that it can be factored in to all dining arrangements.

For many people, food allergies are not necessarily a worry, but some may still have strong preferences about what to include or not include in a daily diet. Many Disney Park restaurants will offer no-sugar-added, low-fat, low-sodium, Kosher and vegetarian options for meals to take care of these dietary needs as well.

Vacation time means time to relax and unwind. A large part of that is being able to enjoy your dining experiences while away… especially at Disney Destinations, where food is extra-fun! What you are going to eat on your trip should never be a worry, and your Magic Maker® will help to ensure that you will have all of the dining information that you need before you even pack your bags.
