Dates Announced for 2012 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

Walt Disney World® Resort has announced that Epcot’s® International Food & Wine Festival will be held Sep. 28 – Nov. 11, 2012.

While the festival is a absolute hit for food and wine lovers, all guests are guaranteed to find something that will satisfy their tastes and interests. The annual autumn event includes:

Kiosks stretched throughout Epcot’s® World Showcase featuring International tapas and beverages
Live “Eat to the Beat” concerts by popular bands
Various cooking demonstrations and dining events— many hosted by celebrity chefs or chefs from your favorite Walt Disney World® Resort Restaurants!
Mixology classes and wine tastings

Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage

For our family, the fireworks shows at Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida are always one of the highlights of our trip. On our most recent trip, we experienced Magic Kingdom® Park’s Wishes fireworks show in a truly unique way. We booked a Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage to celebrate grandma’s retirement. It was a magical evening filled with surprises that topped everyone’s list of favorites for this trip!

Your Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage adventure begins when you check in at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. We were greeted by our fellow pirates and given a Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage kerchief and assigned a boat. After fashioning ourselves to look like pirates and posing with the pirate statue in the hall, we headed in to a feast of pirate treats. There were all sorts of “booty” to snack on, including brownies, popcorn, gold coins, pirate cake, non-alcoholic drinks, and much to my children’s delight, we even found a freezer full of Mickey Bars! During this reception, we also took time to pose for a picture with two very special guests, Captain Hook and Mr. Smee!

Before we knew it, our host for the evening, Patch, was ready to lead us out to our boat and we were off to see the fireworks. As we slowly cruised out into the Seven Seas Lagoon, Patch entertained us with jokes, sing-a-longs, and by getting to know each of the dozen or so families on board. As the sky darkened, we cruised by Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and finally came to rest right in front Magic Kingdom® Park. The boat lights were dimmed, Wishes fireworks show music was piped in, and the entire boat was in awe as we enjoyed Wishes fireworks show like never before!

After a truly spectacular show, our boat started back towards Disney’s Contemporary Resort. As we sailed, Patch led us in a rousing game of trivia, complete with Pirate prizes such as hooks, swords, and flags. Finally, he told us the story of Peter Pan. Just as we pulled up to the dock, guess who was there to surprise us all! After we chatted and took our picture with the one and only Peter Pan, we walked back towards Magic Kingdom® Park to catch a bus back to our resort. Everyone agreed, The Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage was the highlight of our trip!

Magic Kingdom Park Adds New Kids’ Menu Items

Today, the Magic Kingdom® Park added some new options to their kids’ menus at four of their table-service restaurants. These new tastes will give children ages 3-9 some added variety over the much-loved mac ‘n cheese, chicken tenders, and french fries.

Tony’s Town Square will now offer grilled cheese sandwich “dippers” on multigrain bread with tomato sauce on the side. Also at Tony’s, a steak skewer “spiedini” (cubes of meat cooked on a skewer) with roasted sweet potato fries and fresh fruit.

Liberty Tree Tavern will feature a new barbecued chicken and pineapple flatbread pizza served with a side of crisp veggies and apples or oven-roasted turkey with mashed potatoes, fruit and veggies.

The Plaza Restaurant will add a kids’ plate with grilled chicken slices, cous cous and a fresh fruit skewer.

Last but not least, Cinderella’s Royal Table will add three new items to their menu. A chicken drumette with rice and broccolini, grilled beef skewers with mashed potatoes and corn, or a chicken pot pie topped with a biscuit crust.

If your kid is not one of the picky eaters, hopefully this is just be the beginning of new items added for them to choose from!

Via Napoli – Bringing Pizza Perfection to Epcot®

For all the wonderful culinary treats you can experience at the Walt Disney World® Resort, the one thing that always seemed to be missing was top-notch pizza. While Disney pizza wasn’t bad, it also wasn’t on many people’s must do dining lists. That all changed with the opening of Via Napoli in Epcot’s® Italy Pavilion.

Via Napoli serves authentic Neapolitan style pizza and Italian cuisine in an expansive dining room situated in the back of the Italian pavilion. The open design of Via Napoli captures a buzz from the visible kitchen and it’s large brick ovens and the hum of conversation and dining that makes you feel like you have been transported to an busy square in Naples for your meal.

The highlight here is the food, and the pizza is the star. The pizza is made with imported flour from Naples, San Marzano tomatoes, hand-made mozzarella and water that is identical to that used in Naples. The result is a wonderful, crispy, chewy and airy crust baked to perfection with a wonderful selection of options. Via Napoli’s twist on a traditional Italian appetizer is even made into a meal with Prosciutto e Melone pizza topped with- fontina, mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula and cantelope – a perfect blend of salty, sweet, creamy and crispy.

While the pizza is the star, the supporting cast of traditional Italian favorites including pasta dishes, chicken, eggplant and veal parmigian, lasagna and a wonderful selection of antipasti and appetizers to get you started. Nia Napoli has a nice selection of Italain wines, dry and sweet, a flavorful sangria and a selection of Italian beer, including a restaurant exclusive, LaRossa – a double malt lager. Save room for desert and you will be treated with affine selection of traditional Italian sweet treats.

The wonderful atmosphere is made complete by the wait staff, all from Italy and all seemingly with a permanent smile. The language, conversation and insights into cast member’s culture along with wonderful food and drink make Via Napoli an outstanding place to share a meal at Epcot®.

Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning visits Walt Disney World

After a 21-17 win over the New England Patriots, the New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning made a visit to the Walt Disney World® Resort today. Shortly after his win, Manning proclaimed “I’m going to Disney World!” Joined by NFL Youth football players, Eli was honored in a special ticker-tape parade Monday afternoon inside the Magic Kingdom® Park.

Manning’s “I’m going to Disney World” commercial was the 45th in series that begin in 1987 following Super Bowl XXI. Each commercial, airing just hours after the conclusion of current events, celebrates the milestone accomplishments of people from sports and beyond.

With one major sport ending tomorrow with the Super Bowl, that means the start of Major League Baseball is right around the corner.

Spring Training for Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves will return to the Walt Disney World® Resort for the 15th consecutive year. With their sights set on the World Series, the Braves will start their journey at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex’s Champion Stadium. Love is in the Air

“The Magic, The Memories, and You, ” a dramatic nighttime projection show filled with special effects and magic, quickly became a fan favorite when it started back in 2011. Projected onto Cinderella Castle at the Walt Disney World® Resort and on “it’s a small world” at the Disneyland® Park, the show has featured some holiday overlays throughout the past year.

In honor of Valentines Day, the show will add a new segment inspired by romantic moments in Disney Animation. This overlay covers the respective landmarks with roses for one scene and a star filled filled sky for another. While this romantic overlay will only be shown for a limited time, you can expect similar additions to the show in the future.

“The Magic, The Memories, and You” runs on select nights. Check your Daily Times Guide for specific show times.

You’ll Be the Designer at Re-Imagined Test Track

This April, one of Epcot’s® most popular attractions, Test Track®, will close for refurbishment. When it reopens in Fall of 2012, it will present guests with a whole new experience!

The re-imagining of the attraction will change the queue area into a new “Chevrolet Design Center” allowing guests to become automotive designers. After creating their own custom concept vehicle, guests buckle in to one of the 6-person Test Track® “SimCars” and try out their customized vehicle on the Test Track® circuit. After experiencing the hills, switchbacks and straight-aways of the circuit, guests will receive scores in the post-show area grading the performance of their concept vehicles.

Exact closure dates have not been announced. As of now, the Future World attraction is scheduled to be closed April – September 2012.
