Disney’s All Star Music Family Suites

From Magic Maker® Marcie MunozAll Star Music Family Suites

Folks ask me all the time where our family stays when we go to the Walt Disney World® Resort. For us, the most practical place is at Disney’s All Star Music Resort, in a family suite. Being a family of six, we can’t fit into a ‘regular’ value resort room, as well as several other moderate level and deluxe level resorts (without paying a pretty price!). We love the bright colors, fun pool games and many other features of a family suite that you don’t get in a regular room. The family suites are located in the Calypso and Jazz buildings, which happen to be the two sets of buildings closest to Melody Hall where the food court, main desk, and bus stops are located.

While in our case the connecting rooms would be guaranteed because the children (0-17) in our family outnumber the adults, in many cases, the resorts cannot promise rooms will be next to one another with a door between them. Rather than chance having rooms apart, you might consider paying the little bit extra for the suite. With a master bedroom, 2 bathrooms, 2 TVs, and bonus kitchenette make them the perfect option for a family with younger children.

A second big plus for our family, is that we get a separate bedroom from our kids. Once we put the kids down each night, my husband and I have an opportunity to hang out, watch some TV, and check out Facebook.  We discuss the events of the day, and the upcoming schedule for the next day (typically, it’s me letting him in on the know). Also, we have a queen size bed in the bedroom. The regular rooms at the value resorts have two double beds in them (or a single king sized bed).

Finally, another great thing about the family suites at Disney’s All Star Music Resort is the kitchenette. This kitchenette includes a refrigerator, a microwave, and plenty of storage to help us add to our Magic Your Way® Package Plus Dining.  Each morning, after a quick breakfast, we load up our backpack with chilled water bottles and snacks for the day in the parks. In the late afternoon or early evenings, we can have an easy snack like microwave popcorn to hold us over until dinner.

When I have people ask me about whether to get two rooms at a value, the family suite, or one of the other possibilities for traveling party of five or more, I always recommend the family suite.

Easter in Walt Disney World

Holidays at the Walt Disney World® Resort are always special, and Easter is no exception!  Although is Easter isEaster in Walt Disney World typically one of the busiest times of the year, you can still have a wonderful time and enjoy all of the special Easter touches.

On Easter Sunday, you will want to arrive at the Magic Kingdom® Park for Park opening. Dozens of Southern belles in pastel frilly dresses linger outside the entrance and in Town Square. Later, these belles join the Easter Bunny for a special Easter parade.  Don’t forget to stop by and meet Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny in the Tour Guide Garden.  They appear intermittently from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. all this week until Sunday, April 4.  Also, on Sunday, April 4, there will be a 3 p.m. parade that’ll feature an Easter theme with the Easter Bunny, Daisy and other entertainers.

And at Epcot® on April 4, there will be Easter egg hunts for children ages 3 to 9 every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 5:20 p.m. at Heritage Garden at the American Adventure Pavilion. There will also be Easter egg relays for children ages 6 – 12 at Future World West Garden ever 40 minutes from 10:40 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.  While in Epcot®, be sure to check out some of the beautiful topiaries and exhibits for the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival.

Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue

Question:Off to Neverland Navigators Panel

We have reservations for the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue while we are at the Walt Disney World® Resort. What is the easiest way to get there?

Answer:

This is a great question!  The easiest way to get there is by boat. Take a bus/monorail to the Magic Kingdom® Park’s front gates and then look for the boat launch for Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Once getting off the boat at Disney’s Fort Wilderness, it is a short walk to Pioneer Hall – the home of the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. My suggestion is to allow at least 60 – 90 minutes for total transfer time.

If you are coming from either Disney’s Hollywood Studios™ or Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, you can take the bus directly to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Once at the resort, you will have to transfer to an internal shuttle to get to North end of the grounds.

The Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is a personal favorite. Enjoy the show!

The Benefits of Staying Onsite

By Magic Maker® Ceciley SircyWalt Disney World Resort Hotels

If you know Disney vacations, you know that the magic begins right when you start planning your vacation, and it doesn’t stop there.  The magic is everywhere, including at the Walt Disney World® Resort Hotels.  They each have their own magic and special touches adding even more memories to your vacation experience.  The Walt Disney World® Resort has twenty-two onsite resort hotels that meet any budget and offer wonderful benefits.

Extra Magic Hours are an essential part of staying onsite.  They allow you and your family to enjoy every aspect of the Walt Disney World® theme parks by allowing you to maximize your time.  Extra Magic Hours are rotated among the four theme parks and two water parks allowing either an extra hour in the morning before the park opens or up to three hours extra at night after park closing.  This gives you extra time at the parks without all the crowds so your wait time in line for your favorite attraction is reduced!

Another great benefit is the transportation between your resort and the theme parks.  No matter if you travel by monorail, bus, or boat, your ride to the parks is never more than a twenty minute wait.  There is no hassle in trying to find a parking spot or walking long distances to your vehicle.  In addition, you can have all of your souvenirs sent to your resort, so you do not have to carry them at the theme parks.

Activities at the resorts create more great experiences for the entire family.  Each resort has food courts/restaurants, arcade room, pools and gift shops that bring the magic from the theme parks to your resort.  Your family can also experience other activities at select Walt Disney World® Resort hotels such as boat rentals, carriage rides, fishing and much more.  So if you are looking for a relaxing day at a Disney resort, there are plenty of activities to entertain everyone in your family.

No matter where you stay onsite, the magic of Disney is all around making your trip to the Walt Disney World® Resort one to remember!

Character Meals with a 2 year old

Question:Off to Neverland Navigators Panel

I’m confused about character dining with my 2 year old daughter.  She is not old enough to qualify for the Disney Dining Plans.  Will we have to pay for her at the meals with a character experience?

Answer:

Character meals are a great relaxing and delicious way to introduce children to the characters!  Even better, children under the age of 3 eat free at all buffets at the Walt Disney World® Resort!  Your daughter can meet the characters, eat whatever she wants, and make memories to last a lifetime!

Extra Hour for Dining in Epcot

Got a craving for Coral Reef’s decadent Chocolate Wave dessert at 9:15 in the evening?  Guests visiting the Walt Disney World® Resort March 28-April 10, 2010 can satisfy that craving with an extra hour for dining in the evening at Epcot®.  Guests can book an “extra hour” table at Coral Reef Restaurant, Garden Grill or Le Cellier Steakhouse. Then get ready to relax and sip a post-prandial cocktail or linger over dessert while the Epcot crowds dwindle.

The Walt Disney World® Resort is testing this new idea and is looking for feedback.  Epcot® typically closes at 9:00 pm.  The Extra Hour for Dining would allow guests to make reservations for the three restaurants listed above after that time.  This is perfect for that couple who loves late night dining.  With this new arrangement, you may even be able to catch Illuminations: Reflections of Earth before heading off to your meal!

After dinner, stroll leisurely (Or quickly, if you need to work off that second helping of dessert!) through a nearly empty Epcot®.  The Disney Parks have an extra helping of magic at night, especially when not filled with other people.  Guests not ready to call it a day can head out the back of Epcot® through the International Gateway to Disney’s Boardwalk Area.  Street entertainment, night clubs, and shopping all keep the night young!
