Breaking The Myths – Disney’s FASTPASS® and FastPass+ Services

It is no surprise that as the use of social media increases, the amount of myths or “half truths” also increases. As an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner, Off to Neverland Travel® receives questions every day from our clients asking for clarification on a wide range of topics related to their upcoming vacation.

Today we are going to provide some clarification on Disney’s FASTPASS® Service at the Disneyland® Resort and Disney FastPass+ service available exclusively at the Walt Disney World® Resort. Since it’s debut in 1999, Disney’s FASTPASS® Service allows guests to skip the wait of the normal queue at select attractions inside the theme parks. If the guests decide to utilize the FASTPASS® Service, they will be given an hour-long time to return and experience the attraction with little to no wait. In 2013, Walt Disney World® Resort introduced Disney FastPass+ service which allows guests to schedule similar hour-long return windows 30-60 days in advance of their visit.

  1. Myth: You have to pay to use Disney’s FASTPASS® Service
While other theme parks charge their guests for similar services, both Disney’s FASTPASS® and Disney FastPass+ services are complimentary for all park guests! At the Disneyland® Resort, you’ll just simply use your theme park ticket to retrieve your FASTPASS® from the machine. At the Walt Disney World® Resort, you’ll use My Disney Experience to schedule your FastPass+ in advance and then utilize your MagicBand or park ticket to access the attraction at your selected time.
  2. Myth: At Disneyland® Resort, you can obtain more than one FASTPASS® at a time
Guests are able to get several FASTPASS® tickets during a single day in Disneyland® Park or Disney California Adventure® Park. However, they cannot immediately obtain multiple FASTPASS® tickets. While you typically have to wait 2 hours, it sometimes varies. Your current FASTPASS® ticket will always list the time you can obtain your next. There are sometimes select attractions that you are able to “double up” on FASTPASS® tickets, so be sure to ask your Magic Maker® about those.
  3. Myth: Don’t worry about the time listed on the FASTPASS® or FastPass+, you can return at any time after what is listed
While at one point this was true, it is no longer the case. FASTPASS® and FastPass+ return times are now being strictly enforced with little to no exceptions made for being late. Guests a few minutes late will typically be admitted, but we suggest you stick to your scheduled time!
  4. Myth: You are only able to get (3) FastPass+ per day
When you are making advanced FastPass+ choices for the Walt Disney World® Resort, you will be limited to up to (3) selections in your choice of (1) park per day of your stay. However, each day of your visit after you have used your first (3) selections, you are able to choose a 4th selection based off of what is currently available in the system. Then after using that 4th choice, you may repeat that process and continue to make (1) additional selection as availability exists. So while initially you are limited to only (3) selections, it’s possible to make more during your visit.

This is just the first of a series of “Breaking the Myths” articles. We hope you will follow along with us!

Disney’s FASTPASS® Service Creates More Fun, Less Wait

Originally introduced on July 21, 1999, Disney’s FASTPASS® Service has become a valuable tool to theme park guests wanting to avoid long lines for favorite attractions. At FASTPASS® attractions, guests can choose  to wait in the regular queue or put their valid theme park ticket into a special machine and receive a FASTPASS® ticket denoting a one-hour window of time when they can return and enter the attraction with little or no wait.

Disney’s FASTPASS® Service is easy to use:

  1. Visit any attraction offering the FASTPASS® Service. The wait time as well as the FASTPASS® distribution times will be displayed. If you choose to bypass the queue and utilize the FASTPASS® Service, simply insert your theme park ticket into the FASTPASS® machine. You will receive a FASTPASS® ticket denoting a one-hour window for you to return — for example, 10:45-11:45 a.m. In this example, you cannot enter the attraction using FASTPASS® before 10:45 but can return at any time during the designated one-hour window.
  2. Upon returning at the designated time, head straight for the FASTPASS® entrance and proceed directly to the attraction pre-show or boarding area with little or no wait.

Guests are able to get several FASTPASSES® throughout the day in the Disney theme parks. However, you cannot immediately obtain multiple FASTPASS® tickets. Your FASTPASS® will contain the time in which you can obtain an additional FASTPASS® on the bottom of it. Select attractions, like World of Color at Disney California Adventure® Park, is excluded from this restriction.

Please consult your Magic Maker® for full details on how you can maximize Disney’s FASTPASS® Service to your benefit on your next vacation!

Park Favorite Adds FASTPASS® Service at Magic Kingdom® Park

New Dumbo

Beginning today, the Dumbo the Flying Elephant® Attraction at Magic Kingdom® Park will begin utilizing Disney’s FASTPASS® Service. This, in addition to the added second carousel and new interactive Big Top Tent “queue-less queue,” should make waiting for one of the park’s most popular rides a little easier on the little ones.

Guests can collect a FASTPASS® for the Dumbo the Flying Elephant® Attraction outside of Mickey’s PhilharMagic® Attraction in Fantasyland®. Both the second carousel and the interactive Big Top Tent have been in “soft opening” testing and have been open sporadically throughout the day but are expected to open permanently in July.

Best Ways to view “World of Color”

The premiere of this new nighttime spectacular, “World of Color,”  is less than two weeks away!  Below are a few ways to secure your spot to see this incredible new water spectacular at the Disney California Adventure® Park of the Disneyland® Resort in California.

“World of Color” Disney’s FASTPASS® Ticket
FASTPASS® tickets for “World of Color” will be available each morning at the Grizzly River Run FASTPASS® terminals. Guests can insert their park tickets into the terminal to obtain a FASTPASS® ticket to view “World of Color.” There will be a limited number of FASTPASS® tickets available for the show so be sure to get one early!

Note: Guests will not be able to pick a specific show time. FASTPASS tickets will first be distributed for the earlier show, and after those have been distributed, FASTPASS tickets will then be distributed for the later show. When all of the day’s “World of Color” FASTPASS tickets have been distributed, Grizzly River Run terminals will convert back to distributing Grizzly River Run FASTPASS tickets.  As always, theme park admission will be required to enter the park to obtain a FASTPASS ticket and to view the show.

“World of Color” Picnic Meals
You can also secure reserved viewing by ordering a special boxed picnic meal. Contact your Magic Maker™ to order a meal before your vacation.  Or Guests are able to walk-up and purchase, subject to availability, at the Sonoma Terrace, Golden Vine Winery.

Picnic meal options include four selections for adults: “The All American” (cold honey-stung fried chicken), “The Taste of Asia” (chilled miso-glazed salmon), “The European Antipasto” (cured meats, regional cheeses, artichoke heart, sun-dried tomato) and “The Mediterranean Vegetarian” (marinated grilled vegetables in a whole wheat wrap with roasted garlic hummus). Kids’ options for chidren ages 3-9 include “The Junior All American” (chicken), “The Lunchbox Classic” (peanut butter and jelly) and “The Little Squirt’s Box” (apple wedges, string cheese).

Online orders may be placed up to 60 days (starting June 11) in advance but may not be placed on the same day as redemption. The meals may be picked up at the Sonoma Terrace from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Subject to availability, guests who order Picnic meals online will be assigned to the evening’s first show, and guests who make a walk-up purchase will be assigned to that evening’s second show.  Meals are not available for order via Disneyland’s Dining Reservation phone line.  All picnic meals with “World of Color” Reserved Viewing are priced at $14.99 and must be redeemed for the designated reserved show date and time. No refunds, exchanges or other discounts.  Each guest entering the reserved viewing area must have reserved viewing area admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Guests may only enter the viewing area during designated times and no early or late admission will be allowed. Guests in large parties may not be guaranteed admission within the same reserved viewing area. Separate theme park admission is required.

Prix Fixe “World of Color” Dinners
