The Walt Disney World® Resort Difference

By Magic Maker®  Kyle Froman

One of our most vivid trips to Walt Disney World® Resort was in December of 2003. It was my Honeymoon with my new bride (so it had better be vivid right?!). We were embarking on our first Disney Cruise Line® voyage, to be followed by a short stay at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. We had been planning our trip for almost a year and our anticipation, and expectations were extremely high.

The first several days of our honeymoon were absolutely fantastic; they were everything we had dreamt of, and more. However, as our sailing aboard Disney Cruise Line® drew to a close, an unexpected visitor decided to pay us a visit, Mr. Flu. Unfortunately Mr. Flu is no respecter of newlyweds or honeymoons.

These were hardly the high expectations we had in planning our trip. Regardless, the honeymoon must go on!

After muscling through a very tough night we arrived back at Port Canaveral and were ready to disembark and try our land legs out again, making our way to Disney’s Polynesian Resort. The check-in process was pleasant, however I was completely miserable. I can only imagine what the Cast Member assisting us thought about our honeymoon comedy duo, it had to appear as if our honeymoon was pure drudgery.

With all of the joy a newlywed could muster, I drug our bags out of the lobby and to the building we were staying in, mustering just enough strength to get us into the door I plopped onto the bed where I intended to stay until my body told me otherwise. After a few minutes, which felt like an eternity, there was a knock at the door.

On the other side of the door was a Cast Member, bearing a covered room service tray. Our first assumption was that the Cast Member had the wrong room, and now we were being inconvenienced by their error. The Cast Member was persistent that it was for us, and left it on the small table in our room to carry on with his next delivery.

Upon uncovering the tray, we find a piping hot bowl of chicken noodle soup, along with a get well soon card from the Cast Member who checked us in to our room. We did not tell this Cast Member I was sick, she just knew, and she went beyond any reasonable act of service to make sure our trip exceeded any expectation we could ever have.

This is the Walt Disney World® Resort difference.

You see, Walt Disney World® Resort doesn’t employ staff members or even team members, they employ Cast Members. By their very name they get into the ‘production’ of creating a vacation experience that is unlike any other.

The Walt Disney World® Resort difference is found in its Cast Members and their care of our investment is why our family will return year, after year, after year.

Experience the Magic of the Islands

By Magic Maker® Heather Rodgers

Many of us dream of taking time out of our busy schedules to visit paradise and to many of us that destination would include Hawaii. My family recently had the opportunity to do just that and decided that we would spend our time on the island of Oahu to visit some of the most talked about locations in Hawaii including Pearl Harbor, North Shore, Waikiki, and Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. We decided that we would spend part of our trip on the shores of Waikiki and end our trip by staying at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa.

We stayed in a nice resort on Waikiki beach and enjoyed our time there but it was not the relaxing experience we were hoping for there on Waikiki. We moved over to Aulani for the last few days of our trip and found the differences between Ko Olina and Waikiki to be drastic.

Once we arrived at Aulani, we truly wished we had stayed here for our entire trip. It was so much quieter and laid back in Ko Olina. Aulani was the paradise we were looking for in our vacation. From the moment we arrived we were able to truly begin relaxing, which was just one of the reasons why we chose to travel to Hawaii for this family vacation. At our resort on Waikiki, the check-in process was completely chaotic from crowd control to wait times just trying to get the key to our room. At our arrival to Aulani, we immediately had help to ensure a smooth check-in process. Furthermore, Aulani had something for everyone in our family between the kid’s club activities, spa treatments, and beach activities on property. We were able to have a few hours together as a couple, while the kids spent time at Aunty’s Beach House, and we were able to make many family memories on the beach and attending the several entertainment and cultural options that Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa includes in your stay.

Quite honestly my husband was hesitant about staying at a Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa because as much as we love Disney, he feared being surrounded by Disney characters and theme park like attractions. From the moment we stepped out of our car at Aulani we knew those fears would not be realized. Instead Aulani has all the touches of elegance, respect to the Hawaiian culture, and customer service that Disney Destinations are known for without the feel of a theme park experience. Aulani is everything you would hope for in a Disney Destination and it truly surpassed our expectations.

There is no better way to experience the magic of the islands than through the magic of Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. Your Magic Maker® is ready to make your tropical dreams a reality!

Our Favorite Highlights from 2014

Does it seem possible that we’re just hours away from 2015? Seems like just yesterday we were recapping our 13 Highlights from 2013!

One of Walt Disney’s famous quotes is:

Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world. ~ Walt Disney

2014 brought many exciting changes to Disney Destinations are we are excited to have been a part of them! Here is a recap of some of our favorites. Follow any of the BLUE links below for additional information!

  • The Frozen frenzy continued to grow inside Disney Parks! Anna and Elsa began meeting guests back in fall of 2013, but this year brought the addition of Frozen Fun attractions inside the Parks. From sing-a-longs to indoor snow play areas, our guests were delighted with the new additions. While these events have been taking place for several months at the Walt Disney World® Resort, Frozen Fun is just beginning at the Disneyland® Resort.
  • Guests of all ages flock to the Walt Disney World® Resort each spring for an event that is simply out-of-this-universe – Star Wars™ Weekends! In 2014, a new option was added that allowed guests to dine with their favorite Star Wars™ characters! We are excited that this event will return in 2015 from May 4-June 14!
  • 2014 was a great year for Magic Kingdom® Park as they welcomed a new daytime parade and brand new attraction! Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade brings the magical stories of New Fantasyland™ onto the streets of Main Street, U.S.A®. Brand new parade floats, costuming, and an original soundtrack highlights the stories of Sleeping Beauty, Dumbo, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, Tangled, Brave, and others. And our guests are loving the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, a family-friendly coaster that marked the end of the multi-year New Fantasyland™ expansion.
  • Two special anniversaries were celebrated in 2014! One of Walt’s original attractions, “it’s a small world,” celebrated its 50th Anniversary! On the East Coast, Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue celebrated 40 years of foot-stompin’ fun at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
  • Disney Cruise Line continued to be honored in 2014 with several awards and recognitions – including being named #1 Mega-Ship Cruise Line in Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards for Families and honors from Cruise Critic and Condé Nast Traveler.
  • Disney PhotoPass™ Service launched a new Memory Maker package that now includes attraction videos!
  • Walt Disney World® Resort’s MyMagic+ program was enhanced to allow greater flexibility to the FastPass+ system.
  • Just this month, Disneyland® Park launched new viewing options for those guests wishing to end their day by enjoying a performance of Fantasmic!
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has started a refurbishment that brings both queen beds and accommodations for families of five! The refreshed rooms look great and should be completed in 2015!
  • Disney Cruise Line enhanced their Navigator App to allow guests to use their Smartphones to chat with other friends or family members onboard their cruise! This new functionality is great and is a handy way to stay in touch at sea!

So, what was your favorite change of 2014?

Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 Years

Sometimes your trips to Disney Destinations can’t be frequent enough! To help relieve those “Disney withdrawals” many of us rely on Disney movies, scrolling through your photos from your previous vacations, or even perusing your favorite fan sites. But one amazing way to heal your Disney fever is by attending a Disney Theatrical Production!

Disney Theatrical Productions is currently celebrating 20 years on Broadway! Over the past 20 years, Disney has brought many of your favorite movies to life on stage including “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Mary Poppins,” “Newsies” and “Aladdin.”

As part of the celebration, this video was recently released of the a cappella group VoicePlay mashing up the best of Disney on Broadway with a contemporary twist! Enjoy!

A special called “Backstage with Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 Years” will air this Sunday December 14 at 7|6c on ABC.

‘Frozen Fun’ Coming to Disneyland® Resort

A host of magical adventures based off of Walt Disney Pictures’ blockbuster film is on the way to the Disneyland® Resort!

Frozen Fun, which is scheduled to officially begin Jan. 7, 2015, will bring guests closer than ever to Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf. Several new offerings will be introduced in addition to some changes to current offerings.

  • Anna & Elsa’s Royal Welcome
Anna & Elsa will be making a move on Dec. 20th from their current Fantasyland meet and greet location to a new spot in the Disney Animation building inside Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure® Park. This new location will still feature a return time ticket system (similar to those obtained from Disney FASTPASS® Service) so there will be no standby queue. Because times are limited, we suggest guests arrive to receive their return time ticket early in the morning. Also in the Disney Animation building, guests can learn how to draw Olaf in the Animation Academy.
  • For the First Time in Forever – A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
Work is currently underway to transform the former Muppet*Vision 3D Theatre into Crown Jewel Theatre of Arendelle. Two historians from Arendelle help to tell the story of Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff using several popular songs from the film. Both return time tickets and a standby queue will be available for this show.
  • Olaf’s Snow Fest
Inside Stage 17, kids of all ages will enjoy a giant play area with real snow, music from The Tubadors and The Frolicking Fjords, and can even decorate snowman cookies. You never know – you may run into Olaf as well!
  • Freeze the Night! A Family Dance Party
The former Mad T Party area will now host a family friendly event inspired by the icy environment of Frozen. Get ready for games, music, photo opportunities, an ice sculptor, and specialty food and beverages.
  • Frozen-themed Show at Royal Theatre and Pre-Parade
Starting Jan. 7, 2015, Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones will begin telling the Frozen story at the Royal Theatre inside Fantasy Faire at Disneyland® Park. Also on that same date, Anna, Elsa and Olaf will resume their pre-parade appearance before every performance of Mickey’s Soundsational Parade.
  • Frozen Addition to Storybook Land Canal Boats
When Storybook Land Canal Boats reopens from a refresh later this month, guests will find Arendelle and its miniature locales have been added to the classic attraction.
  • Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink
Now through Feb. 22, 2015, 60-minute skate sessions are available inside Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink at the Downtown Disney® District. The rink is open 3p-10 p Sun.-Thu. and 3p-11p Fri. and Sat. Additional fees apply.

A special sneak peek of many of these experiences will start on Dec. 20, 2014. All of the Frozen Fun activities inside Disney California Adventure® Park are slated to run through May 15, 2015 with the exception of the Anna & Elsa’s Meet and Greet inside the Disney Animation Building which is expected to remain there permanently.
