We are all accustomed to Walt Disney World® Resort’s larger than life characters and icons, amazing family entertainment, immense ‘kid appeal’ and  rides for all ages. What we often forget is that Walt Disney World® Resort doesn’t have to be ‘just a trip for the kids’. From fine dining and wine tastings to spas, golf and adventure seeking experiences, there are countless activities to tickle the fancy of any adult!

The great news is, if you have children you don’t have to leave them at home to enjoy the best in Walt Disney World® Resort’s adult offerings! Select Walt Disney World® Resort hotels offer Children’s Activity Centers for children ages 3 to 12, that will entertain your children with videogames, dinner, snacks, movies and more while you slip  away for a little grown-up time. If group childcare isn’t the best for your children, there are also in-room babysitting options for you too! There is no need to feel guilty experiencing a little alone time…in fact your children may ask you to go away more often after experiencing the Children’s Activity Centers.

For those who are looking to travel to Walt Disney World® Resort without children and are nervous about the younger set having the run of the theme parks, consider visiting Walt Disney World® Resort during the traditional school year. Avoiding planning your visit during the summer months and holidays to reduce the amount of crowds you run into on your trip. The late fall and early winter are both beautiful times to visit Walt Disney World® Resort!

While all of Walt Disney World® Resort’s hotels provide great accommodations with top-notch service, there are a few resorts that really stand out to travelers looking for a more elegant travel experience. Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter is absolutely beautiful, transporting you to the romantic and historic French Quarter in New Orleans. Then there is Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, a Southwest-themed resort placing you in Spanish-colonial Mexico. Singles and friends may really enjoy Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Resort…featuring the Stormalong Bay ‘water wonderland’.

When it comes to entertainment and relaxation, Walt Disney World® Resort has that too! As the home of two water parks, four golf courses and an entire area dedicated to entertainment, shopping and dining you are certain to find enough to keep you busy! ‘Limited Time Magic’ Coming in 2013

It was recently announced that 2013 will be the year of “Limited Time Magic” at the Walt Disney World® Resort and Disneyland® Resort! To announce next year’s program, Disney Parks unveiled a three-story fairytale castle made of 45,000 pounds of ice in the heart of Times Square.

52 weeks of magical experiences will await guests on both coasts. The experiences are only available for a limited time though, appearing and then disappearing as the next special surprise debuts.

So what will these “Limited Time Magic” experiences be? While Disney Parks hasn’t released all the details, here are a few samples of planned events:

  • True Love: Lovebirds will enjoy this celebration of romance and enchantment throughout Valentine’s Week. The iconic castles of the Magic Kingdom® Park and Disneyland® Park will be bathed in hues of red and pink while Disney Princes join their Princesses for special meet and greets. Select dining locations will offer prix fixe menus and Valentine collectibles will be offered for the week.
  • Independence Week: Disney Parks salutes America with a 4th of July Fireworks Party for an entire week. Mickey Mouse will make appearances in his patriotic finest, guests will find special USA limited-edition souvenirs, and the castles on both coasts will be bathed in red, white, and blue.
  • Long Lost Friends Week: Lesser-known Disney characters emerge from the shadows to participate in meet-and-greets on both coasts. Disney guests will have the chance to vote online to select which “long lost friends” they would like to see – like Flik, Clarabelle Cow, Remy, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.
  • Pirate Week:  Celebrate everyone’s favorite scalawags all week long! Expect a real bi-coastal buccaneer bash complete with pirate bands, pirate meet-and-greets and more.
  • Dapper Dans Sing Boy Bands: The Main Street, U.S.A.’s® iconic quartet, the Dapper Dans, have a true following the in the Magic Kingdom® Park and Disneyland® Park. But what happens when America’s “Original Boy Band” meets today’s boy bands? Enjoy a week of the Dapper Dans performing a medley of hits from One Direction, *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys.
  • Unleash the Villains: A Friday the 13th in 2013 can’t be overlooked, so prepare for a special celebration on Sept. 13. Disneyland® Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios® will stay open until the 13th Hour (1 a.m.). Many of your favorite Disney Villains have already RSVP’d for the event, will you DARE to be there?
  • Golden Horseshoe Revue: The fabled Frontierland® show returns to Disneyland® Park for one month only, bringing back the corny jokes and enduring songs that were often enjoyed by Walt Disney himself.

Thanks to the extra sprinkle of pixie dust from “Limited Time Magic,” 2013 is a great year to celebrate at Disney Parks! What will you celebrate?

Tink Brings Ice Skating to the Disneyland® Resort Next Week

Thanks to the help of some Disney magic, Tinker Bell will debut a new ice skating experience in the Downtown Disney® District next week at the Disneyland® Resort. Located between AMC® 12 Theatres and the ESPN Zone, the rink allows guests to skate in the world of Tinker Bell with special music and lighting effects. And in November, a special holiday village will be added by the rink to provide guests with a selection of seasonal foods and merchandise.

The rink opens Oct. 23 and is available to guests of all ages through the holiday season. Skates will be available to rent. Helmets will be provided and required for the safety of all guests.

Photos: A Look Inside Magic Kingdom® Park’s Enchanted Forest

Guests who visited the Magic Kingdom® Park this past weekend received an extra surprise when they were treated to a “dress rehearsal” for the Enchanted Forest of the New Fantasyland® Area. Guests were able to experience the Under the Sea~Journey of the Little Mermaid Attraction, take part in Enchanted Tales with Belle, and meet and greet everyone’s favorite mermaid inside Ariel’s Grotto. Although Be Our Guest Restaurant wasn’t serving food, guests were permitted to go inside and look around.

While Enchanted Forest remained open all weekend long, it is unclear how often these “Dress Rehearsals” will happen between now and the scheduled soft opening date on Nov. 19. Special previews will be held starting Oct. 20 – Nov. 11 for registered parties of select groups, including Cast Members, Annual Passholders, D23 Members, and DVC Members.

Downtown Disney® AMC® Theatres Offer ‘Sensory Friendly’ Shows

The AMC® Downtown Disney 24 at the Walt Disney World® Resort and the AMC® 12 Theatres at the Disneyland® Resort have begun offering Sensory Friendly Films to guests once per month. These special showings provide families affected by autism an opportunity to enjoy a movie in a safe and accepting environment. Theatres during these special showings will keep the lights up and will turn down the sound. Parents are encouraged to allow their child to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing during the film.

AMC® has proudly partnered with the Autism Society to bring these special matinees to many of their theatres across the country for the families of the estimated 1.5 million Americans living with an autism spectrum disorder to enjoy. Upcoming Sensory Friendly Screenings include Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph on Nov. 10 and Rise of the Guardians on Dec. 8. All shows begin at 10am local time. Dates and films are subject to change.
