Parents’ Night Out at the Walt Disney World® Resort

By Allie Willits, Off to Neverland Travel® Magic Maker®

IMG_1248We recently experienced a perfect parents’ night out while at the Walt Disney World® Resort and my daughter LOVED every minute of it! Disney’s Children’s Activity Centers make it easy to leave your kiddo(s) in their capable hands.

Located at Disney’s Beach Club Resort (Sandcastle Club) and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (Lilo’s Playhouse) serving children from ages 3-12 the Children’s Activity Center’s are a great value for a flat rate of $55 per child from 4:30pm-midnight (you can drop off and pick up children anytime within those hours). At the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel (Club Dolphin for kids age 4-12) and at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (Simba’s Cubhouse) the rate is $15 per hour per child. At all Children’s Activity Centers dinner and a snack are served. My daughter (age 5) begs to go back every trip.

While our daughter enjoyed dancing with Chip and Dale at a luau party, baking cookies, playing pirate games, doing science experiments, putting on a play and making new friends, my husband and I enjoyed a night to ourselves. Disney’s BoardWalk Entertainment District was a perfect place for our date night. We started with relaxing drinks and live music at Martha’s Vineyard in Disney’s Beach Club Resort, then walked over to the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel for dinner at Trattoria Il Mulino and ended the evening at Jellyrolls enjoying the dueling piano show. When we went to pick up our daughter she didn’t want to leave she was having so much fun!

IMG_1253The Walt Disney World® Resort has great lounges, restaurants and nightlife to spend your adult evenings – or head to one of the theme parks for some after dark fun! Disney Springs™ is always an exciting location for a parent’s night out! Dinner at one of the many amazing restaurants followed by the spectacular La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil is a favorite of mine.

Some other awesome date night/children activity center combos are:

Simba’s Cubhouse – dinner at Jiko followed by drinks at Victoria Falls or head over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park to check out the new nighttime activities and shows

Lilo’s Playhouse – have an evening of appetizers, drinks and desserts on a monorail crawl! At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort enjoy some tropical eats and drinks at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto then head to Tambu Tambu to check out their tasty selection. Next jump on the monorail and head Wave Lounge in Disney’s Contemporary Resort for appetizers then up to the Outer Rim to watch the sunset over Bay Lake while enjoying unique beverages. Lastly – ride the monorail to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort for some live jazz music, libations and dessert (best desserts on the monorail crawl) before heading back to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to pick up the little ones!

Sandcastle Club – walk over to Epcot®’s International Gateway and experience eating and drinking around the world while enjoying live music in the World Showcase – maybe even booking an IllumiNations Sparkling Dessert Party, then, if you choose a night with Epcot® Extra Magic Hours Benefits, head to Future World for some attraction action!

Your Magic Maker® can help you plan the perfect parents’ night out for your vacation and sign your kiddo(s) up for a night of fun at one of the Children’s Activity Centers – just ask them for more information!

New Nighttime Spectacular Coming Soon to Disney’s Animal Kingdom®

Update Apr. 5, 2016: The Walt Disney World® Resort has announced that the new experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park will not open on Apr. 22, 2016 as planned. Unfortunately, more time is needed to bring these innovative experiences to life to exceed guests’ expectations. An announcement on the updated debut date is expected in May.

As part of the expansion currently underway, the Walt Disney World® Resort has announced the new nighttime spectacular at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park will debut on Apr. 22, 2016 soon.

Titled Rivers of Light, the show utilizes live music and water screens to bring the Discovery River to life. Using the latest in technology and innovations, this show is unlike anything ever seen in Disney Parks.

While you’re waiting for the new show to launch, watch these Walt Disney Imagineering videos below to get a “first look” at Rivers of Light and the nighttime transformation of the Tree of Life!

All-New Live Show Coming to Cinderella Castle Stage

This June, Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire will join the lineup of unparalleled entertainment offered to guests at the Walt Disney World® Resort. The new show will replace Dream Along With Mickey which previously ran several times daily on the Cinderella Castle stage inside Magic Kingdom® Park.

During Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire, Mickey Mouse and his pals unite in a tale of friendship featuring songs and characters from Disney’s contemporary classics “Princess and the Frog,” “Tangled” and “Frozen.” This will mark the first appearances by both Tiana and Rapunzel in a show on the castle stage.

No exact dates have been announced for the opening of the new show. Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire will be presented multiple times daily and is included in admission to the park.

Our 15 Favorite Highlights from 2015

Wow! Is it just us, or did 2015 fly by?

From new dining locations to reimagined spaces, there’s been no shortage of exciting changes at Disney Destinations throughout 2015. Once again this year, we tasked our Magic Makers® with deciding their favorite highlights from Disney Cruise Line, Walt Disney World® and Disneyland® Resorts. It wasn’t easy, but here they are:

Top 15 Favorite Highlights from 2015

  1. There’s no questioning the popularity of Chef Mickey’s restaurant inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort! Last May, Brunch was added to the location’s offerings giving our guests a greater opportunity to dine with Mickey and his pals.
  2. Every little girl dreams of being a princess. A recent refresh of the Disney Dream has made room for a brand new Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique providing royal makeovers for girls ages 3-12 and swashbuckling transformations for all on Pirate Night.
  3. The former Downtown Disney® area of the Walt Disney World® Resort is full of excitement as it transforms to the new Disney Springs™. After construction is complete later in 2016, the amount of shopping, dining and entertainment venues will double! The first of the new dining locations, The BOATHOUSE®, opened in April 2015 and offers upscale waterfront dining and rides on some awesome dream boats from the 1930s, ’40s, and ’50s.
  4. Garden Grill Restaurant at Epcot® is often referred to as the “rotating restaurant” that hosted Chip ‘n Dale’s Harvest Feast for dinner. Now, those nutty pals have extended hours to include both Breakfast and Lunch! There’s no better way to start you Epcot® day than with a helping of Chip’s Sticky Bun Bake!
  5. One of the most popular shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios® received a refresh and recently reopened as Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple. Just like before, the stage show teaches young Padawans (ages 4-12) how to use the Force to challenge the Dark Side. After training, Knights will come face-to-face with Darth Vader or a new villain, the Seventh Sister Inquisitor from the popular Disney XD series Star Wars™ Rebels.
  6. Also part of the recent refresh of the Disney Dream was the addition of a new Force-filled area in Disney’s Oceaneer Club (ages 3-12). Kids are transported to a far away galaxy at Star Wars™: Millennium Falcon, where the legendary spacecraft becomes an out-of-this-galaxy play area inspired by the Star Wars™ saga.
  7. MagicBands were introduced several years ago at the Walt Disney World® Resort as an integral part of the MyMagic+ system. Since then, on property guests have been able to choose from standard colored MagicBands that were included complimentary in their package or purchase some specialty ones from various retail locations. Now, guests are able to design their own MagicBands at one of the MagicBand on Demand stations. With the launch of this program, the often-requested band color purple was introduced as a retail option.
  8. A brand new stage show debuted just last month aboard the Disney Magic. “Tangled: The Musical” immerses its audience in Rapunzel’s fairytale world through lavish production numbers and spellbinding music. This is the first time this beloved Disney tale has been adapted for the stage and has received great reviews from our guests.
  9. As part of its recent renovation, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort added Villas and Bungalows to their accommodation options. Built as part of the Disney Vacation Club portfolio, the 360 Deluxe Studio accommodations (sleeps up to 5 guests) and 20 over-the-water Bungalows (sleeps up to 8 guests) deliver the spirit of the South Pacific along with some fun Disney touches to guests staying on a cash basis as well.
  10. Our guests are going WILD over the newest dining option at Magic Kingdom® Park! At the Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen, you’ll experience “World Famous Jungle Cuisine” in one of several unique dining rooms, including a crew mess hall and a once-hidden secret meeting room of the famed Society of Explorers and Adventurers. Staffed by infamous Jungle Cruise® Skippers, this is a meal you won’t soon forget!
  11. Not been to Disney Parks in a while or wish you would have picked up that souvenir you saw on your last trip? The new Shop Disney Parks Mobile App lets you choose from thousands of popular Disney Parks products and have it delivered right to your door! You’ll find the Shop Disney Parks Mobile App available for download in the Apple App Store℠ or Google Play™.
  12. To celebrate the latest Star Wars™ movie, Disney’s Hollywood Studios® has introduced “Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular” fireworks. The night sky above the park erupts with impressive fireworks that are set to the most dramatic and memorable Star Wars themes of all time, including selections from Star Wars™: The Force Awakens.
  13. As part of the Disneyland® Resort 60th Diamond Celebration, Disneyland® Park introduced a new nighttime parade called “Paint the Night.” This after-dark spectacular was inspired by the iconic ‘Main Street Electrical Parade.’ Full of vibrant color and more than 1.5 million brilliant LED lights, the parade features special effects, unforgettable music, and energetic performances that bring beloved Disney and Disney●Pixar stories to life.
  14. Last March, the Be Our Guest Restaurant inside Magic Kingdom® Park started offering breakfast service. With the popularity of the location, this quick-service breakfast can be a great way to get inside and check it out.
  15. Both Disney’s Hollywood Studios® and Disneyland® Park have added new ways for you to experience Star Wars™! Star Wars™ Launch Bay takes guests into the Star Wars™ saga with special exhibits and peeks behind-the-scenes, special food and merchandise, and even opportunities to encounter Chewbacca and Darth Vader! It’s stellar fun in a galaxy not-so-far away!

Now that we’ve told you our favorites of 2015, what are yours?

New Dining ‘Adventure’ at Magic Kingdom® Park

A new table service dining adventure awaits you at Magic Kingdom® Park!

Officially opening Dec. 16, 2015, the The Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen will serve bold tastes from Asia, South America, and Africa. The eatery pulls its theme from the world famous Jungle Cruise® attraction which is just steps away. Alberta Falls, granddaughter of Dr. Albert Falls, acts as the restaurants owner and has decided to invite hungry travelers into the company’s headquarters-turned-restaurant to dine in one of their three themed rooms – the crew’s mess hall, their old family room, and Albert’s secret meeting room.

What kind of flavorful dishes can you expect? Here’s just a few of the highlights:

  • House-made arepas with slow-cooked beef, black beans, tostones and queso fresco
  • Dr. Falls’ Signature Grilled Steak, a strip loin marinated in sofrito and served with yuca planks, avocado and house-made chimichurri
  • Rice Noodle Bowl with an Asian pho broth with choice of chicken, duck breast or tofu served with jalapeños and mix of fresh herbs
  • Trader Sam’s Head-on Shrimp, with sustainable, local, farm-raised shrimp tossed in a chili-garlic sauce and served with Chinese broccoli and choice of five-grain or white rice
  • Coconut Bar with Pineapple-Basil Compote and Vanilla Cream – a vanilla chiffon cake with coconut and lime topped with white chocolate ganache
  • Kungaloosh! African-inspired chocolate cake is served with caramelized bananas and cashew-caramel ice cream topped with coffee dust.

Junior Explorers will enjoy:

  • Junior Skip’s Special Mac and Cheese is inspired by an Egyptian dish with ground beef, pasta, Béchamel Sauce and house-made cheese gratin, served with broccoli
  • Amazon Annie’s House-made Arepas with slow-cooked beef, black beans and queso fresco served with yuca planks
  • Sizzling Savanna Grilled Flank Steak with steamed broccoli and fingerling potatoes;
Smiley’s Little Croc of Chicken Noodle Soup
  • Kids Volcano

At this time the restaurant will only be accepting walk ups – no reservations are available. The Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen participates in both the Disney Dining Plan and Tables in Wonderland programs.

Happy Veterans Day

Words can not express our gratitude to those who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. Military. We honor your great sacrifices to preserve our freedom not only today, but every day!

It’s no secret that Walt Disney was a great patriot. During the design and construction of Disneyland® Park, he made sure to showcase that. On a walk down Main Street U.S.A.®, everyone notices the main flag pole in Town Square but may overlook several other American flags flying high as they continue throughout the rest of the park. A plaque rests at the base of the Town Square flag pole that reads “Disneyland® is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts which have created America.” But probably the most overlooked display of Walt Disney’s patriotism is the late afternoon Flag Retreat ceremony that takes place in Town Square. A tradition since 1955, the ceremony is performed out of respect of our nation’s flag and as a way to honor those who have served our country.

In 2013, we were privileged to spend Veterans Day inside Disneyland® Park and witness a special Flag Retreat ceremony. In observance of the day, Disneyland® Resort Cast Members and guests who are Veterans along with the 1st Division Marine Band from Camp Pendleton served as special guests at the ceremony. You can only imagine the emotion of being surrounded by the Americana feel of Main Street U.S.A® and the sounds of patriotic tunes like God Bless America, Star Spangled Banner and the Armed Forces Medley on such an important day.

A Flag Retreat Ceremony is performed daily at both Disneyland® and Magic Kingdom® Parks. Be sure to check your Times Guide and attend during your next visit to the parks.

Trick or Treat: 9 Disney Destination Tricks You May Not Know

Happy Halloween!

Sometimes, having a magical Disney Vacation involves a few tricks! From when to call for Advanced Dining Reservations to how to best utilize Disney FastPass+ service, our expert Magic Makers® know them all!

With Halloween just a day away, we thought we’d treat you to just a few of our favorite Disney tricks:

Walt Disney World® Resort

  • With MyMagic+, planning is more important than ever! Previously, your “ADR date” (180 days before travel when you can make dining reservations) was the most important planning date. Now, your “FastPass+ date” is equally important, especially when you are staying at one of the on-property hotels! On-property guests get first access to reserve Disney FastPass+ attractions, shows and more 60 days before you arrive! This advance access can make or break your hopes of getting FastPass+ times for popular attractions like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. But don’t fret, your Magic Maker® will take care of reminding  you of all these important dates!
  • When making your initial plans, you’ll be able to select up to three FastPass+ experiences for your family each day. But once you redeem your initial selections, you can visit any in-park FastPass+ kiosk and select an additional experience based on availability. After using that one, you can keep repeating that process selecting one more after your previous selections have all been used.
  • Did you know that Epcot® has two entrances? The International Gateway, located between the United Kingdom and France pavilions, allows for easy access to Disney’s Boardwalk and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. Here you’ll find great nighttime entertainment as well as some amazing dining choices. Just a quick walk or boat ride from the back entrance to Epcot®, this area is worth exploring.
  • Guests who visited Downtown Disney® years ago may remember there being more than one bus stop. But now if you are arriving at Disney Springs™ by resort bus, you are dropped off at a bus station in the Marketplace area. You can easily get to other areas via boat service, however the new boat launch area is not very clearly marked. As you are exiting the bus area, you’ll make an immediate right and follow a path that takes you to the Marketplace Dock. If you’ve made it to any of the stores, you’ve gone too far! With all the hustle and bustle of other guests making their way to and from the buses, the path is easy to overlook!

Disneyland® Resort

  • Years after opening, Radiator Springs Racers inside Disney California Adventure® Park is still popular! Want to know how to get early access to Cars Land and the attractions? It’s as simple as staying at one of the three Hotels of the Disneyland® Resort! Only guests of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel® & Spa, Disneyland® Hotel, and Disney’s Paradise Pier® Hotel can utilize Extra Magic Hour to access Disney California Adventure® Park one hour before scheduled park opening every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
  • Celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or even a first visit? Always remember to ask for a button! While nothing is guaranteed, sometimes magical things happen to those proudly donning a celebration button.
  • One of the perks of being a Disney Visa® Cardmember is access to a special Character Meet ‘N’ Greet inside a Private Cardmember Location. Offered for  just a few hours daily, Cardmembers can find the Meet ‘N’ Greet inside Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure® Park.

Disney Cruise Line

  • We are often asked when is best to book a Disney Cruise Line vacation. That answer is simple – as early as possible! Unlike other vacation destinations, pricing on Disney Cruise Line typically increases as the ship fills. Early birds can expect great pricing and the best selection of cabin types and locations.
  • Before leaving home, be sure to download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App onto your smartphone. While onboard the ship, you can connect to the ship’s wi-fi (which is complimentary for this app) and conveniently access a calendar of events and activities, a deck plan of the ship, and a feature that allows you to message with other guests on your cruise.

These are just a few of the tricks we can treat you with now! Be sure to contact your Magic Maker® today for even more tricks to make the most of your next Disney Destination vacation! If you don’t have a personal Magic Maker® yet, let us know! We’d love to connect you with one!
